TORONTO (TICKER) -- Rasheed Wallace scored 20 points and grabbed 10 rebounds as the streaking Portland Trail Blazers broke open a close game in the final quarter and raced to a 91-81 victory over the floundering Toronto Raptors. Dale Davis collected 16 rebounds along with 13 points and Damon Stoudamire scored 19 points as Portland won its eighth straight contest and improved to 3-0 on its four-game road trip. The Trail Blazers outmuscled the Raptors on the boards, 58-37, in winning for the 19th time in their last 24 games. Leading 71-66 after three quarters, Portland took control with an 18-8 burst. ------------------------------------------------------------------------------------ Everybody was down on them after they were 3 games under .500 at the beginning of the season. Now they are playing like the best team in the NBA. Mo Cheeks deserves alot of credit for turning that team around. Do you think they have a chance of making some in the playoffs?
If Portland could ever put egos aside, get shots for everybody, etc..., they would be as good as or better than the Lakers. If they can get it together, they can definitely make "some" in the playoffs. If they can't, well, they are the same 6th-8th seed that people have come to expect of the Trailblazers.
i hate the blazers. i hope they will not make the play offs. i have to gree it is a nice job by cheeks
Wow what a great post, fitting for a great team, the Portland Trailblazers. Who are currently the hottest team in the NBA and will continue to be tonight after they defeat the Bucks. Rasheed Wallace is proving that he is the best Power Forward in the league. We've always known that he was the most talented but now hes making good use of his awesome talent. Stoudamire and Wells have stepped up their scoring, Patterson is making some huge contributions of the bench. And yes let us not forget Pip, he's just doing what he's always done and that's fill up the stats sheets.
1st of all Maurice Cheeks happened, Pip has stepped up his and most importantly Rasheed Wallace finally grew up. And plus making Stoudamire more of a 2 guard then a point guard has really helped his offensive game. Kemp was also playing pretty well but he had to go and screw it all up by doing drugs. Patterson and Anderson are tremendous off the bench. Davis an under sized center is doing great at the 5 spot, although at 6'11 I don't really think he is under sized, only when he plays against Shaq.
I don't think a bigger team of thugs and criminals have ever been put together since the Dallas Cowboys in the 90's. The Blazer are my least favorite team in the NBA. I hope they go down early in the playoffs.
PiPdAdY33 - don't tell me you actually like Quitten.... Without his little bum buddy MJ, he is nothing. How many turnovers will Pippen get this play-offs? Watch him squander any hopes Portland has of getting passed the first round.
Well, I actually think the Blazers have a shot to win a couple of series in the postseason this year. I think last year may have been an aberration in some forms, as the team just kind of crumbled. The year before they made it all the way to Game 7 of the Conference Finals, and had the series won before pulling the choke of the century. Since then, the talent hasn't significantly changed. Steve Smith is gone, but Derek Anderson is in and Bonzi Wells is a much better player. Arvydas Sabonis being gone will hurt because he actually played Shaq tough a few times, but he's far from irreplacable. If the Blazers' big men can hit a few outside shots, they can draw Shaq out of the lane. Is there a chance that Kemp will come back this season? Despite how much a lot of people hate Portland, they're still a team to look out for. There's a lot of talent and versatility on that roster, and if they are hot they can play with anyone.
As much as I hate Quitten, and am not fond of the Blazers as a whole, I'd still love to watch them pull a 1st round upset of the Lakers. Shoot, I'll take almost any team over the Lakers this year (except the Jazz)
I wouldn't get on the Blazers bandwagon quite yet. Odds are that this is just a hot streak and they will be back to earth as a .500 team by the end of the season. Too many egos and distractions to be able to maintain any momentum.
Not a bad thing if you're a fan of the Cowboys, which I am most certainly not. But its obviously been a bad thing for the Blazers and their fans.
I'm not Shawn Kemp's apologist, but the above statement that he "had to go and screw it all up by doing drugs" isn't entirely accurate. Maybe he's still doing the drugs, but what happened this year is he didn't comply fully with his court-mandated sentence (i.e., he didn't call in, or see his counselor as often as he was supposed to, something like that). Which still amounts to "screwing it all up." And yet he's making...what?...$20 mil per year?
Trailblazers won again against the team with the league's best record, Sacramento. That's ten in a row for the hottest team in the league. Do you think they can reach 50 wins and get a first round home playoff series?
Pacific NW team suck eggs. I have heard it is a nice place to live if you don't mind the rain, and I don't mind the Mariners or Seahawks, but the Trailblazers and Sonics are a couple NBA final scum licking chokers. The only team worse than them to a Rockets fan is that fellow finals chokers 500 or so miles southeast of them. Quitten, Minnie Mouse, Mr. T Wallace, and Shawn give me that sandwich Kemp--what a collection of overrated buffoons. Mr. Me Payton and "No, give me that sandwich" Baker, not much there to like and even further part of some bad blood with the Rockets. I will say this, at the begining of the season the TrailFlamers were one of my darkhorses for being competitive in the West, I thought they would be around a 4th seed and about as good as the Spurs. So I came close to predicting their improvement this due to a change of leadership. But though I saw it coming I am not particularly happy about it. Finally, I don't think they will fall much in record, the Flamers are a good deep team, but they would have no chance against the Lakers, and not a good chance against the Kings, Mavs or Wolves--who all have better go to players. Their best chance to get out of the first round is drawing the Spurs, but that doesn't look likely to happen.
I thought Kemp's more major problems were not with drugs but with donuts. "Shawn, put down that Krisp Kreme and slowly step away". I can understand the temptation.
