I'm beginning my first semester at Rice tomorrow, and I need to know some traffic information so I can plan my commute accordingly. I'm driving to Rice from Katy, so I get on Westpark East at Mason Road to 59 North, and then I exit Shepherd. Does Westpark get a lot of traffic in the morning between Mason and 59? If so, what time? What about 59 from Westpark to Shepherd? And what about the trip home in the afternoon, what time does traffic get bad? I've been told that morning traffic on Westpark gets heavy between 7-9 AM. But Thursday and Friday of this past week I got on westpark at 7:15 and 8:00 respectively, and there wasn't enough traffic to slow me down and I made it in 25 minutes. Maybe this was unusual because of the holidays? Your responses are appreciated.
It was most likely unusual because of the Holidays. To get to UH from Katy, I usually left my house either before 6:30 or at 8:15 (early one was to get to an 8:30 class) What time's your first class?
Well as of right now, my first class is at 11, so it's not a problem. But I might switch to an earlier classes, not sure yet. I also finish at 4 on Tuesday and Thursday, will it take a long time to get back if I leave then? What will be most helpful is if you could tell me during what periods of time traffic is heavy. I've heard westpark and 59 are bad from about 7:00-9:00 AM and 4:00-6:00 PM. Is that right?
Most kids were off from school last week. When school is out, traffic really isn't bad. When the kids go back...watch out. I am SOOOO not looking forward to tomorrow morning.
I drive from Mason Rd to the Galleria every day and go Westheimer Parkway to Westheimer Rd @ Highway 6. It almost always takes an hour for me to get to work. Last week was an aberration because school was out due to the holidays. I've not used the Westpark because it's pretty expensive, and I've heard that it gets regularly backed up as well at rush hour.
If you don't have class until 11, you should be OK. Those rush hour times seem about right. Here's a great traffic resource - http://traffic.houstontranstar.org/layers/
