Cities' Rankings for Road Rage Episodes

Tue May 16, 9:14 PM ET

AutoVantage ranked cities with the most and least road rage in its first "In the Driver's Seat Road Rage Survey."

Residents in the following 20 cities were surveyed and are listed in order from those reporting the most incidents of road rage to the fewest:

    1. Miami

    2. Phoenix

    3. New York

    4. Los Angeles

    5. Boston

    6. Washington/Baltimore

    7. Detroit

    8. San Diego

    9. Houston

    10. Philadelphia

    11. Dallas/Ft. Worth

    12. Denver

    13. Chicago

    14. Cleveland

    15. San Francisco

    16. Atlanta

    17. Seattle

    18. St. Louis

    19. Nashville

    20. Minneapolis

I would've though NY would've been first, LA further down, and Houston within the top 5

Of course, a lot of cities were left off this list... but I have to agree about Miami. I've driven a lot of places and Miami has the very worst of the drivers. It was scary.

Speaking of road rage, I think the worst drivers in the country all hang out on Hwy 6 between Houston and College Station. They get all liquored up and drive their giant pickup trucks 5 miles under the limit next to each other so nobody will pass, not that they'd want to anyway with all their swerving. They should have considered that little section of hell in their survey.

Being a native Houstonian,I'd have to say it's gotten worse and worse over the past 40 years. There seems to be an acceleration in the last 10 yrs, or so...Houston used to be SUCH a friendly city, but most likely it's just a microcosm for society now. Some solace can be taken though in that we are the fourth largest city yet we are only 9th.

There is a lot to be aware of.Drivers DO have to deal with neverending road construction, people on cell phones not paying full attention, heat, humidity, snarled traffic, hotheads, drunken drivers, crime, and so on.
I'll tell you though,it's just not worth messing with your MOJO when someone does something crazy.Just move on as you never know what hopped up nut is going to whip out a gun.....drive away from the confrontation and stick w/the good karma.

I had a chuckle on the way into work this morning. I was heading east on Westheimer when some dude in the far right hand lane cut me off. Instead of honking or getting pissed, I calmly shook my head at the idiot. Not two minutes later, he is cut-off by a car in the same exact manner he cut me off. Yeah, dude went off honking his horn and giving the guy the bird with both hands. I was amused.

A few weeks ago I was at a light and this dude didn't notice that the light had turned green, so I honked at him, he moves ahead and switches to the right lane and almost comes to a complete stop. I thought his car was breaking down, I passed him up and then he switches back to the left lane, as we were approaching the next light at a freeway underpass I switch to the far left turning lane. He then speeds up and gets next to me at the next turning lane, I was with a friend and he thought he was trying to tell us something. I thought maybe there's something wrong with my car, then the freeway underpass light turns green we turn left and I get on the freeway, this dude stops in the middle of the road and is again trying to tell me something as I get on the freeway. Then he gets on the freeway and almost hits a car trying to catch up to me, he gets right beside us and starting telling my friend if we want to start something, WTF? My friend made a no no problem hand gesture, and he sped off, that's just insane, I couldn't believe that he got that upset over a simple honk.

The top two are because of the old people...

From a pure traffic perspective, excluding Road Rage, Houston and Dallas suck...

Yeah, I forgot to mention how bad Florida (at least Miami/West Palm Beach/Ft. Lauderdale) drivers are. I was there for nearly two weeks a few years ago and they were terrible.

I'm surprised LA comes in at number 4.

Everytime I'm there people are pretty relaxed.

Of course is hard to cut anyone off when NOBODY IS FREAKING MOVING!!!!
