It's 1:30 in the morning and I can't sleep, so I offer this thought provoking topic. Me and my friend had a whole argument on this because I don't think he understood what I was saying. I say that traffic lights should and usually are (in Houston anyway,) coordinated with one another. Which means when you pass a greenlight, given that you're going the speed limit, the next light directly ahead should be near or already turning green when you pull up to it. This way it eliminates congestion. I know it's done in downtown, near freeways and on some streets, but it seems like that's the norm in the city. I say that because I spend a lot of time is Pasadena and I get frustrated driving there because it seems like every light you hit turns red on you. I've noticed this is some small towns as well. Is it just me or are Houston lights more coordinated. Keep in mind that I'm talking about staying straight on a street, not including once you turn and not talking about lights that are a mile apart. I look at it like this. A traffic lights are like referees, they're doing their job if you don't really notice them.
It's all or nothing. Some days you feel like you are lucky and get every green. Then you feel like you get every red light imaginable.
