Most clutchfans think they can be an effective NBA GM. I day dream being CD taking orders from Jeff and blowing smoke up Les a$$. My thought as CD then get discarded as complete waste of BBS space after about 3 replies to any thread I start but here it goes again. So would it be smart to trade the 1st rounder in 2007 now before Wed. Right now I think it may not be a lottery pick. Will the value drop considerably if we win the next two or even the next game. What could we get in any trade tha includes an unprotected 2007 1st rounder+expiring contract guys like Mooch or Wesley or maybe Vin B (can we still trade the drunks depressed PF even though we bought him out?). Obviously my first choice would be Steve Francis but many people on this board say Les won't have 3 max guys on the Rox. ANother choice would be a creative/big 2 or a shooting defensive oriented 2 guard. There are alot out there but I like J Childress, Caron Butler, Battier. We could also use a PG that can play backup like Speedy Claxton or Earl Watson. We may need to throw in more talent to get a guy that has gone in the top 8 of the draft but what will the 1st rounder s value be now vs next week. Is it the time to make a move or should we still play it like the Astros and just wait for Head and Swift to make the difference in April and June.
i think les would be down for 3 max guys if the results were outstanding. I don't think he would go for a stephon marbury max kinda guy because marbury tears down franchises. Look, les wanted Artest. So, having the 3rd star in the 10-13mil range isn't out of the question. Les isn't so shy about pulling blockbuster trades. i.e. quitten, round mound, clyde, tmac (althought that was a no brainer).
As long as Rocks have a chance of drafting Gay, Carney or Splitter none of those guys you mentioned are worth trading for.
So do you think SF is worth taking a look at and what will it take to get him without giving up TMac/Yao. He does add rebounding and scoring to at 2 guard with capability of still playing big min at the PG. IMO I would love to SF back in Htown but I dont' think we have to goods to get it done.
i think JJ Redick would be a perfect fit here. he would get so many open looks with Yao and T-mac on the court with him.
He also said that the value of the pick would drop if we win a few games, so obviously he's talking about this year's pick. I would move the pick if we get a legit player back. Preferably an upgrade at the SG, a regular-sized one that can defend the guys that Wesley couldn't handle.
I have no problem moving the pick if we can get a legit roleplayer back that will stick around for the long haul.
francis doesn't add to what we theoretically have. Lets say Bobby Comes back, Francis' reboudning would be a moot point. We also don't need someone else dominating the ball because 75% of creation goes to Yao and Tmac. The other 25% is our pg that is less turnover prone. To compound that, Stevie isn't a good spot up shooter to get the open looks Tmac and Yao create. Stevie also isn't fantastic at running a break, while rafer is more capable. I like Steve, but he needs his own team with superior athletes like dwight howard or a pure iso offense. JVG would cramp his style too much. Artest on the other hand would help in so many areas. He would relieve Tmac of alot of Defensive duties and he is a much more efficient scorer and defender than Steve. But what is most important is saving Tmac's energy. PJ Brown would be an artest at the 4 spot minus the headaches. He could guard the better low post player, and give Yao more operating room because of his Brown's J. We don't need a huge superstar for our 3rd role player, but picking up a allstar or borderline would be fantastic if it benefitted us in more ways than a skillset.
It all depends on the compensation package. I would have loved to get my hands on Ricky Davis, with this system his ability and Van Gundy his defense would have been impecable. i would have taken blount too cause mutombo wont last forever. ive thought about franchise coming back, and with alston and maybe sura manning the point basketball wise it could work but there is so much else there, the only way it would is if Yao became the peacemaker cause franchise can't stay mad at yao. (even though he never was to begin with, but you get the point) reality is that trade won't happen, there is no way they will trade tmac for franchise, then trade franchise to the same team for some pieces not named yao or tmac. it would look horrific for the team. Caron Butler is in the last year of his deal, Childress is making next to nothing on a team under the cap so our cap room isn't appealing. Battier would be a nice piece but he was just given a decent extension and is number 2 in minutes on Memphis, he seems entrenched on a team trying to advance in the playoffs, not cut costs. The worst teams in the league and players they might trade Charlotte: still building as expansion, maybe Brevin Knight but we are pretty good at the point guard spot. New York: This team is so messed up its too hard to speculate anything about anyone on the roster, it seems only the 3 rookies are untradable, but what they want is quite a question. Atlanta: they will probably trade Harrington, i'd love to have him only if he resigns for less than the max. around 8 mil per which i doubt he will. torotno: mo pete will probably be the next to go. Boston: unless they unload lafrentz and pierce there really isn't much tradable here. So it seems unless something under the radar happens this is the roster we will take for the rest of the year. frankly if the choice came of getting the 8 spot and getting the snot beat out of us or going into the lottery, well i wont answre that now, cause this is a weak draft, if there was a lebron in it i'd be telling yao and tmac to chill.
We have no shot at those guys. Besides that, it will take each of those guys at least 2 years to even contribute on a Van Gundy coached team. Not only that but our pick is losing value with every win we pile up as we march towards the seventh slot and possibly the sixth. You must be blind if you can't see it coming. We should trade the pick for any upper echelon player we can get our hands on, such as Harrington, as long as we can retain them or retain their Bird rights. In Harrington's case, I believe we can. But if I were CD, I would be doing my ............ to pry Pietrus out of Golden State or Miles out of Portland. Give them Swift and take back one of their albatross contracts. But get Pietrus or Miles in here to run the swing with TMac. If we can't do that, bring in Harrington and let him play 3/4 with Chuck Hayes. On offense you let Harrington play the opposite wing of TMac with Rafer up top, and Hayes and Yao down low. Just keep Hayes close to the hoop for offensive boards and put backs. Then on defense, rotate Hayes, McGrady, and Harrington on the 2,3,4 depending on how the matchups are best suited. I'd like to see if Hayes can guard the perimeter. Bottom line: use the draft pick as trade leverage to some team that thinks we are going to the lottery.
Artest is only making like 7-8M dollars, not 10-13M. But I agree that Les probably wouldn't mind adding another star player. I think this year has kind of proved we need that 3rd scorer. Howard, Wesley, Alston, Swift, DA, Barry, and Head are all role players, we need another guy that can put the ball in the basket by himself.
I meant 2006. You definately have good points but I also think you missing what Steve actually provides this team. Now I watched SF as much as the next guy and SF made his share of mistakes but you can't deny the biggest stat during his 4 years in Hou. When SF was out we lost almost every game and when he was playing we where essentially .520 team. What I think Steve adds is a dimension that isnot accounted in the stats of the game but add to the victory total. He has the talent to makes plays at the end of the game where most NBA games are decided. He gets essential rebound, he gets to ft line, and he causes distractions and requires the opposite team to game plan for him, he fatigues the guards who have to defend him and is one of the best players in the league in PointsPerShot. He makes us a much better 4th quarter team. Simple as that. Plus if Yao or TMac go down SF will allow us to maintain a higher level of winning becuase he can also dominate a game regularly. I am not going to say that Steve is better than Artest, they may be about the same but right now Steve is on the trading block and Artest is not. And Steve maybe attainable with a 2006 1st+Swift+Moochie+DNP. Pesonally I would trade the 2006 1st rounder+Rafter+Part PJ Brown is like an old horse and we have plenty on this team. At this point he is a liablity and his +/- stats indicate he is part of the losing players of the league. I would hope we would not give up a 1st rounder and 2 players for PJ since he makes probably 8mill . Wouldn't you agree.
i think we should just keep the pick. if we make the playoffs great we can get hopefully a decent player. if not then we can maybe get someone that can hit an open shot. at this point we are set for next year at center, SF, PG, and PF sadly. so we could use a young SG that knows how to hit an open shot. if we can get that in a trade with that pick then fine but i think our chances look better in the draft. if anything maybe we can use this years pick in the draft and next years and maybe head also to get a player that would be a young 3 star for this team. but that may be putting too many eggs in one basket in what is considered a weaker draft.
Swift and Head are young players but even if they were combined with our 1st round pick it would be difficult to get a 3rd star. Steve Francis would need the ball in his hands a lot of the time. I don't think he would fit in well with both T-Mac and Yao.
Rockets Management make decisions by comittee-Les A., CD, and JVG. I do not see Van Gundy supporting Francis' return. I do not think Steve would it in either.
I agree that neither party would be supportive of a return. I love SF to death but let's not kid ourselves here, when he is unhappy you're going to hear about it. Theoretically, let's say we bring him back and he doesn't like his role here. He's not going to just suck it up and accept whatever role is given to him, he's going to complain and make an issue of it. We don't need any distractions and we certainly don't need anymore problems on this team. Did anybody see the Beyond the Glory with Francis? You can tell from segments of the interviews that JVG and SF clashed and don't really like each other.
Ok I think Les would only pay 3 max players if they were ofcourse Yao, Tracy ..... And Steve Nash... I almost cried just thinking of this scenario
I love SF3, I do. I have that thought all the time, whether we could somehow get him back. But the more I think about it, the less possibility I see. It's not whether Magic would apart from him, but rather whether we can make use of him. My conclusion is, as sad as it is, we will not get him back. We would not replace Rafer with him in the starting lineup, because we've been waiting too long for a pass first PG, who can handles the ball, take the pressure from TMac and get the ball into Yao's hands. We would not replace DW with Steve, simply because his defense. DW doesn't need the ball in his hand to be effective, but Steve does. With Steve's contract and ego, there is no way you can make him coming from the bench to give you 15-20 minutes a night. So, there is no room for him. He contributed a lot of his passion and energy to the Rockets, but this is a business.
If we get Nash without losing TMac and Yao, Suns' GM and owner would not only get killed by their players and fans, but also face death threat from every other NBA team, especially in the West. Hey, I am all for it
