I have heard through a "source" that there is a possibility of a trade with Chicago. From this friend, Chicago has a desire for both Cato and Shandon (sign and trade). The Rocks are apparently interested in Curry while accepting Miller's contract (Rocks exercising the contract opt out after the trade). Other players may be involved to make the deal work. Again, this is from a source that may or may not be reliable. Just thought I would put it out here for Clutch or the others in the know to verify. If this is for real, I would definately be all over getting rid of Cato. We could then go after Jackson. Our centers would then be Hakeem, Jackson and Curry. Talk about converting a weakness to a strength. Holy cow!!!! Hakeem, Jackson, Curry Mo, KT EG, T. Mo., Williams, Langhi Cat Franchise, Mooch I could live with this team for the next year. Man, I hope this is for real. Clutch, Please verify? Thanks. ROCKET!!! ------------------
LOL-that's a pipe dream. And when did the Rockets get Jackson? ------------------ ZeColmeia on stealing: "I did not steal anything. Ive used some of clutchcity player profiles when I first created the draft profile page." [This message has been edited by NYKRule (edited July 01, 2001).]

As the old saying goes: if it seems too good to be true..., but hey, doesn't hurt to hope. ------------------
The Bulls already picked up Miller's option, so he can't be opted out on. I could see a deal being worked out to acquire Miller, but I'd have a hard time believing that even Krause would be stupid enough to trade Curry for Cato. ------------------
That is nonsense, the Bulls aren't exactly run by geniuses, but this trade would be beyond stupid. ------------------ "So, is there still a big rivalry between North Carolina and Duke?" Craig Sager - Proving the only thing bright about him is his shirt.
Curry being Eddy Curry? Ummmm...as much as I would love for this to happen, it won't. We would have to give something else of value to get Curry from the Bulls. But I would take Brad Miller alone for those 2 b/c I hate Cato and his lazy ars and I don't think Shandon fits w/ this team anymore. I must mention again, since no one ever commented on this...not even a disagreement, but the mayor, Fred Hoiberg, who also is on the Bulls and is a free agent, I think would contribute more than Shandon would. Sure, the athletic ability isn't there as much as Shandon's but at least the mayor can shoot from outside and won't turn the ball over near as much as shandon did. Don't mean to alter your trade ROCKET!!!, although I would love if your trade came through, but I think Cato/Shandon for Miller and a resigned Fred Hoiberg would do wonders for our bench. ------------------
To all, Hey, I just heard this. Don't shoot the messenger! NY, Read the post. I said the Rocks would be free to pursue Jackson in the future if this is for real. Clearly, if the Miller opt out is gone so is the possibility of Jackson if we want Hakeem. ------------------
Hmmmmm..... http://www.chicagosports.com/bulls/content/story/0,1984,155116,00.html Bulls' need free agents Quest to begin for veterans By K.C. Johnson Tribune staff reporter June 28, 2001 10:33 PM CDT - - - - - - - - - - - - - - E-mail this story - - - - - - - - - - - - - - Youth often carries with it an air of naivete. Forgive Tyson Chandler, then, when he flashes a megawatt smile, as he did Thursday at the Berto Center, and conveniently forgets last season's franchise-worst 15-67 train wreck of a Bulls season. "I think we can win 30 or 40 games next season," said Chandler, 18, who met the media along with fellow draftees Eddy Curry, Sean Lampley and Trenton Hassell. "We're not shooting low. We're not trying to get better by two or five or 10 games. We want to make the playoffs. We have big hopes." The Bulls also have big holes. Some who pay attention to minor details such as a roster's average age or the lack of depth at point guard and swingman positions might call them enormous. Chandler's brash confidence and general manager Jerry Krause's bold draft-day move aside, more obviously needs to be done for this team to sniff 20 victories, much less 30 or 40. Krause's drafting of fellow 18-year-old Curry and his trade of Elton Brand to acquire Chandler all but puts the need for the Bulls to acquire veteran experience in bold print and headlines for the rest of the league to see. That's why Thursday started with Krause and his coaching staff sitting through a three-hour meeting on free agency and ended with the same people enduring a two-hour meeting on trade possibilities. "We understand that these guys are going to need some veterans around them because the game is different from even the college game, and Tyson and Eddy missed that step," said coach Tim Floyd, who must feel like he's coaching in college again. "They missed that step for a reason—because of their basketball gifts. But having some mentors around will certainly help." The period to begin recruiting free agents begins Sunday, which is why strategy is taking shape. The Bulls, mindful of the wasted time spent chasing Tim Duncan and Grant Hill last summer, aren't expected to expend much energy pursuing top-tier free agents such as Chris Webber or Allan Houston. They are expected to make a run at Michael Finley, even though he is likely to re-sign with Dallas. But they also have set their sights on midlevel players such as Shandon Anderson, Derek Anderson, Bryant Stith or Eddie Robinson—players with NBA experience. What Krause most wants to do is engineer another trade. Mindful of last summer's free-agent debacle, he's is trying to take matters into his own hands and acquire veteran help that way. And though Brand just got dealt, which seemingly ceded the starting power-forward position to Marcus Fizer, the Bulls recognize Fizer is one of their most tradeable assets. Fizer was discussed in a potential draft-day deal involving Seattle and Miami that would have brought Eddie Jones to Chicago. Fizer also has been mentioned in trade talks with Minnesota involving Wally Szczerbiak. There is some hope in the organization that Brian Skinner, also acquired in the Brand trade, can hold the starting power forward position as Chandler matures if Fizer gets dealt. If a trade is accomplished, then the Bulls look more like the Clippers team—young, exciting players with veterans sprinkled in—they're mildly trying to emulate. "We've always been trying to get as athletic as we could," Krause said. "We've always been trying to get as big as we could. We've always been trying to get as quick as we could. "We think we've done that with this [Brand for Chandler and Skinner] trade. But we feel strongly about getting veterans too." No matter what happens, the Bulls are likely to be a bad team again next season. If that is the case, sacrificing Brand and somewhat starting over the rebuilding process will be the culprit. But next year's draft should include Chinese center Yao Ming and Duke point guard Jason Williams. Next summer's free-agent crop includes Toronto's Vince Carter. "I understand the way people are going to look at this trade," Krause said. "My answer is come and see the kids play. Whatever I do, it doesn't matter because I'm going to get ripped one way or the other. "That's just part of my life. I understand that. That's just part of my job in the city. But I'm going to do what I think is right for the franchise. And I think we did some very good things for the franchise." ------------------
I don't doubt that the Rockets could still be trying to work out a trade with the Bulls. However, I do doubt that that would be the trade. Assuming that the Rockets are trying to deal Cato, and everyone agrees that the Bulls are the most likely team to take him, what would it take(from both sides) to make the deal work? ------------------ "If you don't understand it, don't try to understand it." -Carl Everett
While this may be to good to be true, you guys should know better then to blow something off with the weird stuff that goes on here. After that guy said he overheard a Rockets' exec talking about trading for Francis while in a mall, all bets were off. ------------------ "Win if you can, lose if you must but always cheat!" - Jesse Ventura
Anderson and Cato for Miller and a second round pick. Can't get much better than that for the Rockets (the Rockets getting Curry is albatross). Anderson for Miller straight up is probably more realistic. ------------------ ZeColmeia on stealing: "I did not steal anything. Ive used some of clutchcity player profiles when I first created the draft profile page."
Well we have nothing to lose if Shandon walks, so if the Bulls want him they'll have to take Cato. If they don't want Cato, then Shandon walks, and they're screwed. Either way, doesn't bother me. ------------------ "Win if you can, lose if you must but always cheat!" - Jesse Ventura
What do you guys thing of this trade scenario? BULLS GET: Shandon Anderson (sign-and-trade) Kelvin Cato ROCKETS GET: Brad Miller Some protection removed from future 1st rd. pick owed in Drew trade Miller is a big center who can bang with the big boys and also hit the open jumper. Rudy still loves him from when he coached him on the World Championship team. Also, his contract with the Bulls had options for the next two years. The Bulls exercised their option for him this year, so he'll make around $5 mil. But there is another team option after NEXT year, so the Rockets could always let him go if he doesn't pan out. By removing some protection from the Bulls' pick they owe us, we could have a CHANCE to own a lottery pick while still making the playoffs. While I'm sure the Bulls would NEVER consent to leaving their pick unprotected in the top 3 (they want Jason Williams or Yao Ming next year), if we could get it protected ONLY for the top 3 or 6 or so, we could have a legit chance at their pick in the next two years, a la the Otis Thorpe debacle that has now caused Vancouver to lose their non-top 5 lottery pick next year to Detroit. Another benefit of this trade would be that, if the Rockets wanted to defer their pursuit of outside free agents until next year, they could possibly do that by making this trade and re-signing Hakeem to a one-year deal for big bucks. NEXT YEAR'S SALARIES COMING OFF THE BOOKS: Hakeem - big bucks (?) Walt - ~$5 mil Miller - ~$5 mil Just a thought. Hell, to get rid of Cato's contract would be reason enough to do that deal. ------------------
To all, Again, I just heard this. It may be smoke. However, my guess is that there is some kernel of truth in this. The Curry part never made sense to me because that is the guy Krause specifically wanted out of the draft. That is why he was so disappointed on lottery day. He wanted the number one pick for Curry, but he lucked into him anyway. NY may not be too far off. I have always felt that something was in the works with Chicago-----who knows? TRG also hinted in another post that July 18th would bring plesant surprises just after talking about getting rid of Cato. Again, who knows? It was out there and I wanted to post the 411. I will tell you that I am first in line to ship Cato's lazy tail out of here. Personally, I can't see much on Chicago's roster that we would really want (other than rookies) or that would improve our team dramatically. Just my humble opinion. ------------------
I don't know if the Rockets are talking with the Bulls... that could be, but I really don't know. I think the Rockets really want to bring back Shandon at this point. Even as short as a month ago that wasn't the case. I think the players wanted him back -- my understanding is some players (atleast Francis that I know of) didn't like that Shandon was given the cold shoulder, sort of speak. I think the ball is going to be in Shandon's court there. If the Rockets can't make him financially happy or get him the playing time (what can you possibly say to Shandon now in negotiations when it comes to a starting spot?), they may think sign-and-trade. Or he may just leave outright (though there are very few teams, if any, that will give him more than the $4.5 million exception). Any rumor involving Cato I wouldn't shoot down as entirely false. However, there is no way the Bulls will deal Eddy Curry. They just went through all that hell of dealing Brand so they could start over with two potential star front-liners. They have scrapped their previous rebuilding plan and are starting a new one. Neither Curry nor Chandler will be dealt. ------------------ NOTHING BUT .NET CLUTCHCITY.NET
I don't think the Bulls plan on taking up any more of their cap space then they have to this year. I think their plan is to have the worst record in the league this year, draft Jason Williams from Duke and then sign Vince Carter in free agency next year Jason Williams (Duke) Ron Mercer Vince Carter Tyson Chandler Eddie Curry Yikes! ------------------
BimaThug, For some reason, that never occured to me when I heard this. It makes quite a bit of sense. We could end up with +$15 mill in cap space next year (once Williams, Miller & Hakeem are gone). We could be players in next year's market as well. Think that would hack off the rest of the league? Sweet! ------------------
