I know its early to talk about the draft but how far do you guys think we can climb up if we trade Asik and our 1st or Lin and our first, or all 3?

We try to trade up nearly every year. I'm sure everybody else tries to do that too.

The price is often times way too steep just to move up a few spots.

Why don't we trade up in the PLAYOFFS instead?

There are probably only a couple situations where a team would want to get a worse first round pick AND pay $15 million to Lin next year. Seems highly unlikely that it would happen. Similar for Asik, but I think we'd have a better chance of dealing him.

The best kind of deal I could see the Rockets getting in this draft is similar to the one the Spurs got a few years back when they traded George Hill to move up to the 15th pick.

However a good team this year is going to miss the playoffs in the West, and maybe they view Asik as that missing piece this Summer, and decide to swap with Houston. Maybe Phoenix... Maybe Dallas... who knows, but I think the best the Rockets could do is either late lottery, or slightly after the lottery. The most likely is a team in the East like the Bobcats or Atlanta that make the playoffs, and end up with the 15 - 18th pick, and have high regard for Asik over whats available at that spot in the draft.

However, then you have to ask yourself if Morey would even be interested in making that trade if the pick is out of the lottery, or all the good talents he sees in the draft are already taken.

But one things for sure... No team in the NBA that is deep in the lottery with aspirations of rebuilding is going to be giving up their lottery picks in this draft for Asik and especially Lin.

I actually see morey selling off the pick this year. In order to retain a very good quality bench player or starter.

When it comes to trades, I don't view Lin and Asik as assets. At this point I think they are liabilities. Teams do not want Lin or Asik. Morey will have to pay someone to take them. Just like how we had to pay someone to take Royce White.

I think Morey might trade our 1st and Parsons to move up so we can get another good player for cheap for the next 4 years, instead of extending Parsons.

That cap hit for lottery picks is brutal for our chances for anouther max player. I think it was basketballaholic (May be wrong) but he was campaigning trading away our current first for a future first to save the cap space, the only way I see it possible to trade up is if we want a euro stash who will go before us someone like DMo when he was picked by the wolves then traded to us

Trade up and draft McBuckets, he is perfect fit next to Harden and Dwight.

These owners are stinking rich. So paying Lin or Asik the 15 mil is nothing, if they think one of them makes the team better, or, in Lin's case, maybe makes them batter AND makes them more marketing money.

However, the thing to keep in mind is, regardless of how much money they actually pay them, the salary cap hit for each of those guys is only around 8 million. That is NOT a bad price for Asik, and one could make the case that, in places like NYK, paying Lin that cap hit would be worth it as well.

Much more likely the Rockets trade out of the first round.

From a pure cap analysis standpoint (meaning the $8 million cap hit, not the deferred payment due for year 3), Asik and Lin are both valuable assets. When extrapolated to 30+ minutes per game, each player provides stats that are in the range of the top 10 for their positions at a cheaper price.

I doubt any team in the lottery will be willing to deal their pick unless the offer is just way too good to pass up. However, if Morey could trade up into the late-teens to grab Adrien Payne, that would be great!

Yep. I also could see the Rockets attempting to move out of the first round. I have heard people speculate that a high second round pick is superior to a low first round pick because of the mandatory 2 year contract and salary requirements.

Easily the better commodity to have on the books. I said a while back we should try and trade out first for a high second and a future second but now with how hard roster spots are going to come by maybe the best case is just to trade it for a 2016 (KD FA year type draft selections)

Not a bad idea. Assuming Morey is still high on Covington and Canaan there is certainly no reason to add rookies to the squad. Unless of course it is for a Euro stash.

Yes, that's been said since the Rockets signed those 2 to those contracts. But we've made both of them available and they're still here, so I don't buy the idea that the balloon payment is insignificant.
