I really hate these things!!! I mean i despise them, so yes i am being hypocritical, but i thought that the type of player the rockets need is a good consistent shooter at the 2 who could play some D, and who has some experience... I know we dont want his big salary..but Im thinking Allan Houston would be a good fit. Ok now go ahead and roast me and tell me why we shouldt trade cat for allan houston, besides salary
Because they are pretty much the same player, though Cuttino may be a little better slashing to the basket. Houston is just soft and doesn't do much besides shoot jumpers. He isn't known as a palyer with a high IQ either. If you want to suggest a trade that won't work salarywise, you might as well do some sort of Garnett or McGrady for Moochie deal. Come on, make it worth our while.
The funny thing about all the responses is that if you had posted "HOW ABOUT KT FOR POSEY?" last week you would have gotten the same level of intelligence in the feedback.
Allan Houston isnt the right choice imo. However, I would not be shocked if Mobley does get dealt eventually either by the deadline or in the summer. Ive been discussing a good deal about how our guards simply do not make smart passes, good reads etc, and I feel in the long run, it will prevent this team from becoming consistent. In addition, it is becoming more and more obvious that Mobley's percentages drop a good deal when he has to be a spot up shooter, passer, etc. That just is not is game, Cuttino needs the types of plays where he gets the ball on the isolated elbow and slashes and drives. He was getting those types of calls a lot in the Miami game but not against Indy. Against Miami, Mobley dropped in 27 pts, but the Rockets barely squeaked out a win against a bottom feeder Heat team. Against the Pacers, Yao got involved a greater deal in the offense, and the Rockets beat a much superior team. If Mobley is dealt tho, simply a shooter like Allan Houston is not the answer. The team needs a SG like Brent Barry that not only can shoot, but can pass, rebound, defend and make smart decisions with the ball. A player like Brent Barry could enable Steve to stay at PG and still be effective b/c he has such a high bball IQ and makes really intelligent reads. Also, I dont necessarily think Brent Barry is untouchable. The Sonics have a very soft frontcourt plus if Barry is dealt, they can easily move Desmond Mason into the starting rotation. I could see a deal like the following: Sonics Get: Brian Grant Rockets Get: Brent Barry Heat Get: Cuttino Mobley, Calvin Booth That type of deal would address all the issues that we have been discussing and make this a more consistent and better team overall. That team would be a contendor very soon and extremely difficult to defend.
I don't think the board is remembering Cat is playing hurt (bad ankles and missing toenail). I'm glad to have Posey (we will miss you, K.T.) because he can spell Cat for several games while he recovers. Cat is IMO far more valuable to this team than Allen Houston would ever be just because of his will to win. Thank goodness there is nothing wrong with Cat's heart. His wheels just need a little air.
Brian Grant is very aggressive. He fouled out against Yao! Brent Barry would be a wonderful player with the Houston Rockets. But The Cat must not go! He and Steve Francis are best friends and know each other very well. We need somebody like Wesley Person or Tony Delk or Luscious Harris. Or find a European guy who just automatically shoots 3's.
Mobley for Brent Barry would hurt our defense more than it would help our offense. Also, Barry really choked up in the playoffs last year (bad sign). I put it this way, if you put the tools of Brent with Jon's sac you have a real player (a lot closer to daddy actually)--unfortunately you have to take one or the other. I have no interest in Brent for what he costs (money/players), however I think Jon would make a nice offseason FA addition--kind of a slightly less dirty super saver version of a late model Danny Ainge, great to have as a back-up in the playoffs.
I'll go out on a limb and agree with what Bill Walton said during the Pacers vs Houston game, and say that the Rockets need a good SF. Nachbar just doesn't get any playtime unless you garbage minutes playtime, and Rice has shown that he's not very consistent on offense at nights where he'll maybe manage to score 2 points a game, and his defense is lackluster. I don't know who to suggest for a good SF, but it would be nice to have a good sized scorer in their with some range. As dumb as this may sound, if Matt Bullard still played, I wouldn't mind seeing him put on a Rockets Jersey. The guys 6'10, is a heck of a shooter, and is no worse of a defender then Glen Rice is, except he can put up some points beyond the arc more consistently. Also I bet the guys gotta be dirt cheap, and is also familiar with the Rockets organization and how they run their plays, especially since the Rockets are slowly but surely implementing their offense through Ming like they did with Hakeem, where Bullard played for us during those days.
22 points, 7 rebounds, 6 assist and 4 blocks for Cat. Enough said. What are people's love affair with Brent Barry?
PERSONALITY, MONEY, NOT A FRIEND OF FRANCIS, SHOOTS FIRST,PASSES SECOND, NY MENTALITY WONT WORK WITH RUDY T. OK!
Good trade for Sonics and Houston, but I'm not sure the Heat would do it. With Caron Butler, Eddie Jones, and a developing Rasual Butler on the bench, why would a re-building team like Miami take Cat? If they were contending and needed a damn good spark plug off the bench, then it would make sense, but for Miami, it's just replacing Grant's 50+ million dollar contract with Booth and Cat's 50M combined, over almost the same period of time. Brent Barry is a decent player, very smart, but I really don't want to trade so much talent (Mobley) for, simply, a "heady" player. Another point to make is that Mobley has an incredibly reasonable contract. I believe theSportingNews ranked him as one of the top 5 contracts in the league. Meaning, he's top 5 in production per Dollars. That's very valuable these days. Allan Houston, at the right price, would be brilliant for this team. There is the question of defense, but he's not completely incompetent in that area. He's a detroit guy that's played in New York his whole life. He HAS to have some D in him. Pure shooter. But again, he's worth, at most, 7M a year. He makes close to double of that. We have Posey now, but Wesley Person is a player I would've loved to have off the bench. He's ben playing well since the beginning of LAST season, when he was with Cleveland. Here's one thing I'd like to hear comments on: How about a healthy Micheal Dickerson? Shooter, plays tough, value couldn't be lower. Of course, it's a big risk trading for someone who still hasn't come off a long injury delay, but the way he plays seems to fit with what we're trying to do. maybe we can trade Rice for him, and then if we see he's working out well as the backup 2/3, then we can trade Mobes' smallish contract packaged with Mo's, for a backup 2, a backup 4 (all vets) and a future pick. Thoughts?
Didn't we trade Michael Dickerson at one point and time to the Grizz and a few other players I forget for Francis? I know that's not exactly how the trade went, but we gave him a few years to produce for the Rockets and he never did. The guy has tremendous ups, and is a pretty decent shooter, but he just never went over the top like we anticipated him to.
I want performances like this from the Cat on a consistent basis. He had 6 ast and 1 TO, thats about the second time Ive seen Cat do that this season. I want to see Cat let the game come to him CONSISTENTLY and play smart CONSISTENTLY before I change my mind on him fitting. Tonight was definitely the type of contribution we need from the Cat. Lets see if he can keep it up.
Pousey was not in anyone's radar screen. It came as a big surprise to me. So, whatever trades we're trying to predict, the result always turn out to be something different.
