It just occured to me that I don't want to deal with the headaches and hassle of owning a beamer. I've had the dealership replace all the window regulators, a pulley + belt, gas pedal mechanism, and some other misc stuff. I love the ride, but I want a vehicle thats as maintenance free as possible; hence lexus. Im leaning towards the IS350 with sport package and possibly the Navi. Is there any other vehicle under $40k you think thats better than the IS350?

You could be really trendy and buy an Acura.

Acura TL isn't all that. Acura's auto trannies are made of glass and WILL fail on you. Honda's have been notorious for their weak auto trannies and the TL is FWD. I forgot to mention one of my requirements is RWD. Im never going to purchase a FWD ever again, never!

I LOVE the IS350. If my wife would ever get another job I just might buy myself one someday.

How about the Subaru Legacy. Not as luxurious but has turbo and AWD.

Other options are the Audi A4 and Infiniti G35.

have you checked out the G35 Coupes. The 6 speed ones are damn nice and you can get them fully loaded for a good price. The IS are nice as well though.

I loved my G35. BMW's are overrated and have too many service issues. (flame away, hypersensitive beemer lovers)

Really? I still have my 94 Honda Accord coupe running with like 198,000 miles on it. I drive that to work every day and haven't had a major problem with it. (Except the ones caused by me).

I haven't heard much about tranny problems on hondas that much.

I have been looking for a new car for a while...actually a used car and that was one of the ones i was looking at. Just becuase of the features and options you can get for a decent price if you look to get an 04 or so.

I'm just responding to the post about the transmission, I put a lot of miles on my accord in the last three years so it may have just worn out.

If I was going to be buying a luxury coupe in the 30-40k price range I'd go for the 3.2L Audi A4 Coupe... all of the other cars in that market are all over the place.

Their auto trannies with v6 engines (200+ hp) are the ones that are boo boo. My dad used to own a 96 TL and the tranny gave out after 60-70k miles. I've read numerous reports of people with tranny problems on their Honda's w/6 cylinders.

I'd go for something like a TT. I don't know much about durability, but that car has much more style than an IS. I am just tired of seeing every third car on the street being a Lexus.

The TT is not for everyone and if you see that many of them there is a reason. The reliability is outstanding. It's not a bad thing to see a lot of the same car since they are good quality.

When did the new IS come out? I hate buying brand new cars, so I'm thinking of getting a used one (demo or lease return). I have a 325xi and am ready for a switch. Not sure if I want to give up the AWD, but I def want a bigger engine.

If you wait until April you may be able to get more info on the new G35 sedan.

I have an 02 IS and love it. I've driven the new 350. Holy moly is that thing fast. Handling still not quite as "tight" as a BMW, but not everybody is Mario Andretti. And it really does feel very very quick off the line, etc. I punched the 350 I drove up to about 120 on a nice wide highway and felt it had another 30-40 mph more in it...it was just so smooth.

That said, I do think the new look is nice, but kind of boring, and that for all the options you want, it is way expensive...certainly not under $40k.

So, I'm waiting for one of the April auto shows where Infiniti has said they will debut the new G35. Rumors have it being a production model late this year.

They've already debuted a new "concept coupe." It looks awesome.

Also, it is a little expensive, but the M35 Sport is pretty nice, too. The M45 sports is definitely expensive, but awesome.
