Jameer is out again and they need a pg. we need a center. I'm thinking a three-way trade with us, some team, and the magic. We trade battier to a said team with pgs. That said team sends a pg to the magic. The Magic send Gortat to Houston. There can be fillers involved, or maybe we could trade lowry and sign conroy(not sure about that), and i know people are going to ask why we didnt sign gortat. so why would we trade for him. Just because we didnt spend our mle on him doesnt mean that we wont pay his sallary if we can dump off cook or get a decent trade worked out. If yao comes back strong next year we could sit him in back to backs and start Gortat. I think he can be had now for a pg... does anyone know of a way this could get done??
We didn't sign Gortat because he rejected our deal. Not because the Rockets chose not to sign him. Lol.
I read that the Magic are "standing pat". They aren't looking to make any moves. It's only 4-6 weeks.. I think Orlando is focused on the post-season. They wouldn't mind going .500 for a month.
If Morey wasn't willing to sign him for the MLE in the offseason why would he trade for him at that same salary?
why would orlando trade their only other big man to get a temp pg when nelson will be back way before the end of theseason?? A bigger risk for them is going into the playoffs with no back up for dwight.
Because he is a potential trade asset. I wouldn't do this, but for the right deal,I would consider it. We aren't going to win big, unless McGrady gets us a very good player which is highly unlikely. IMO,we need to rebuild and guys like Battier and Scola are trade assets. That doesn't mean I'm going to give them up unless I feel it will help us in the long run. Gortat isn't a bad player, but I'm not convinced that he is good enough for the contract he is on,nor do I see much upside in him either.
I did read the entire thread but Morey has a value for every player he wants to acquire and he put a value on Gortat during the summer, it would be completely out of character for him to be willing to pay up now. I know we need size but I just don't think Morey would overpay.
Let's see... Which team has a good backup PG that they might trade so that we could get Gortat..... Hmmm - I just can't think of ANY team that has a good backup PG that they'd want to use so that we can get a big guy.... (if you're having trouble reading between the lines, it's spelt L-o-w-r-y) IF Gortat was a really big target for Morey, then surely he'd be using our own Lowry as the trade bait? Lowry + Cook (or Lowry + Hayes) for Gortat works just fine. However, I can't see why on earth the Magic would do that? They kind of need a backup big man.
^^ and why would we do that? Gortat is a temp solution for this year, where would he fit next year with yao, chuck, DA, landry and possibly scola too?? It's not worth losing our back up pg, just to win a few more games this year.
Battier to Portland Blake to Orlando Gortat to Houston Not sure if the salarys match but if they don't, I'm pretty sure they're pretty close.
I know Gortat is only playing 19 min a game but do you really want to pay 6-7 million over the 5 years for a guy that is avg 4.4 ppg, 4.8 rpg and 1.2 blocks? In comparison Landry is playing 25 mpg - 15.4 ppg 5.9 rpg and 1 block pg Also do you want to have 23 million tied into your centers next year? Gortat playing the 4 is not a good idea...
