Maybe it's just me...but I can't work out why or how any trade with Vancouver is likely. SAR is under contract for another 5 or 6 years, so it's not like they have to rush anything (and their season is over already regardless of who they got)

I really hope I am wrong...and I'd love to see SAR in a Rocket uniform, but can someone enlighten me exactly WHY it would happen? (apart from us wishing for it.)

The quote below seems to pretty clearly indicate to me that Vancouver is in no rush and that they actually do have the sense to want some value in return ...(I love Hakeem, but half a seaon of Dream for SAR? Come on...)

"Vancouver owner Michael Heisley addressed the media before Monday night's game against New Jersey, admitting his team lacks chemistry but would only make a trade if it got equal value back. "If I went out and traded Shareef and Bibby and all I got back was Joe Shmoe, I think the fans would be even more disappointed in us."

Anyway...I hope I am wrong and the boys in the front office have something up their sleeve.

I don't know what the Grizz are thinking but I assume that there are two very important things to them - cap flexibility and draft picks. Like anyone who is building or re-building, those two things are of great importance. Look at the Rockets. They have gone out of their way to express how important cap space is to them and they have protected it like a bulldog. Vancouver can't be that different. Even if the Grizz did get "Joe Shmoe" for Reef, what they also could get is cap relief and/or draft picks.

Would the Rockets offer either? Who the hell knows? I don't think they would but I've been wrong so many times, it's becoming embarrassing. [IMG] Maybe Doc Rocket will come back and enlighten us. Hint, hint... [IMG]

One thing is for sure, Reef doesn't really like Vancouver much and a disgruntled star is far worse than an average player who loves playing for you. Giving fluffy PR responses to the media is one thing. Making your team a winner is another.

I know what you are saying Jeff, and I agree about cap flexibilty when it comes to teams like Houston etc...

However, Vancouver having any cap room seems irrelevant. I can't see any free agent of any note at all going their. Thus, all they;d get is the ability to save money (ie...have a low pay roll that is under the cap)

Maybe that's attractive to them...aren't they losing a heap of money? They could dump SAR's contract and possibly Big Countrys...and take back just a one season commitment like Dreams.

I think I have just convinced myself...:)
