Three way deal involving the Knicks, Pistons, and Knicks. Knicks send Sprewell to Detroit. Pistons send Stackhouse to Minnesota T-Wolves send Szczerbiak to New York I think that makes the T-Wolves a much better team. I feel that they need that extra help since they lost Billups.
As a Detroit fan, seems like complete NY media BS. NY and Minnesota get what they want/need, while Detroit basically gets an older version of what they had plus they'd likely have to throw in another decent player to make salaries match.
That trade makes absolutely NO sense for Detroit. Stack is a better, cheaper, and younger version of Spree.
Agreed. For Detroit's sake, I hope its just a rumor and nothing else. Stackhouse's unselfish play last year landed them in the playoffs. With the addition of Billups, this team could be a force in the east. It would be a shame to throw it all away for Spree.
I know NY is desperate to make changes for the sake of making changes, but I don't think this would help them much except get younger. 1) Spree's their best player and their leader 2) Houston's the real problem with his fat contract 3) Houston and Wally are similar players and both 2's. 4) They still have 3-4 sorry PGs 5) They still have no center.
i saw this too and i was going to post it, but i don't have ESPN insider... can you post the actual article, rather than just the headline? thanks in advance.
There is no article from Insider, just the one on the ESPN site: After traveling to Washington, Chicago, Minnesota, New Jersey and Utah, Devean George finally decided to stay in Los Angeles, agreeing to a four-year, $21 million deal with the world champion Lakers on Wednesday. George's agent, Mark Bartelstein, confirmed the agreement Wednesday afternoon. George got the full mid-level exception from the Lakers -- $21 million was the most they could pay the 6-foot-8 forward. The contract includes an option for George after Year 3. "He probably took a few years less than he could've gotten elsewhere," Bartelstein said. "But this is where he wanted to be. The Lakers were his first choice." George could've signed with the Minnesota Timberwolves or Utah Jazz for six years, according to Bartelstein. George has spent the better part of the last two weeks trying to find a situation that would allow him to spread his wings a bit. Both the T-Wolves and the Jazz were willing to offer similar contracts to George, but in the end, sources say George felt that the situation in L.A. suited him the best. The 1999 first-round pick enjoyed his best season during the 2001-02 campaign, averaging 7.1 points and 3.7 rebounds in 21.5 minutes a game for the Lakers. George's stock really rose in the playoffs, particularly in the NBA Finals. Against the New Jersey Nets, George gave L.A. a spark off the bench, averaging 5.0 points and 3.6 rebounds and coming up with 11 points, six boards and two blocks in 20 helpful minutes in the title-clinching Game 4 win.
Detroit should just say "no". Stack has nearly shed the "Jack" from his name, lately - is playing very good ball. Spree is a cancer. Spree can't shoot. This makes no sense for Detroit.
Minnesota is definitely the winner in this trade. They trade a pretty good scoring, but disagreeable player for a very good scorer that would probably love playing alongside KG.
While the national media says Minnesota is holding up this deal and it is definitely being talked about... Joe Dumars says, uh, no way. Here: http://detroitnews.com/2002/pistons/0207/18/f06-540287.htm Favorite quotes from the article: "That deal there, that three-way deal they are talking about, that's not going to happen," Dumars said. "It's not like Minnesota and New York called me and made that offer." and "I tell you, if Stackhouse thought any of these things were legitimate, he would have called me," he said. "And I haven't heard a word from him. I have had many more calls about Jon Barry and Ben Wallace, but their names never get out there. It's always Stack. And this won't be the end of it. It's just his name is so big."
Minnesota would have to include some other players for that trade to work. Maybe then it wouldn't be so lopsided... Rasho, Terrell or someone.
The Minnesota owner: "Somebody must have made that up." Here: http://www.twincities.com/mld/twincities/sports/basketball/3683492.htm
I think the bigger story is that the Knicks have split into two teams to deal with their cap problems.

That rumor was from the New York Daily News, not Insider. http://foxsports.lycos.com/content/view?contentId=581256
