I have a question about sign and trades. I know that in a trade the salaries of the players have to be within 15% of each other. But does that also have to be in sign and trades? If so why does anyone do them? Like McGrady signing with Raptors and getting traded to Bulls for players. Now the Raptors just take on Players with salary when they could have used the money the save if McGrady leaves to sign someone else. And if you do have to be within the 15% how did we get Pippen for Rhodes? Thanks ------------------
I'll just answer the last question. We were way under the cap so it didn't matter if the salaries were close. In fact, I think it was only a sign-and-trade because you can get a little more from your own team than from a new team that you sign with, so the Bulls were giving Scottie a little money as a sort of thankyou and goodbye. ------------------
If you are under the cap, then you can take any amount of salary. The rule you mentioned only applies when both teams are over the cap or if the team over the cap is taking on more salary. ------------------ [This message has been edited by DaFranchise (edited June 14, 2000).]
Thanks! I was wondering about that. I just thought the league was trying for more Parity. ------------------

Yeah we did Brahma Rocket. Jerry Krause looked as if he did a bad deal but now he has the last laugh. ------------------ President of the Moochie Norris FAN CLUB
The Pippen trade wasn't good or bad for Chicago, it was a complete non-factor. Pippen was going to leave and Chicago wasn't going to get anything for him. Chicago also had a reputation of not treating their players well. The Pippen sign n' trade was just a PR move by Krause to show how he took care of one of his players. The deal allowed Pippen to still go to Houston (he want to back then) and to get alot more money. Doing that deal didn't cost Chicago anything more than having to pick up Roy Roger's contract for one year. Chicago didn't mind that because there's a minimum team salary that all teams must pay out, so Chicago had to get up to that minimum anyway. I don't see how Krause got the last laugh. He ended up with the worst team in the league. Sure, he' got alot of draft picks and a ton of cap space, but so far I haven't seen him do anything with it. Personally, a front line of Brand, Artest and either Mihm or Pryzbilla doesn't really frighten me. You can even toss in some combo of McGrady,E.Jones,Maurice Taylor, C. Alexander or D. Miles and I still don't think they'd be that good. They'd be improved, sure. But, still not a contender. ------------------
