What do you think of trading Mo T for Greg Ostertag? Thenk this could help the Rockets out. Ostertag comes off the books after this season and would make a great backup for Yao. Ostertag has been healthy for pretty much his whole career. Can rebound and block shots as good as Cato did, but be better on offense. Would you make the trade? Then get someone like Brian Skinner to play back PF for Howard, sign Barry, and then trade TE for Fisher!

    C-Yao, Ostertag
    PF-Howard, Skinner
    SF-Jackson, Boki, Barry
    SG-T-Mac, Barry
    PG-Fisher, Lue, Barry

    Finals baby!

You can't trade for Ostertag. He's a free agent.
Also you can't trade the TE for Fisher. He's already opted out.

Ostertag is a FA? I thought he had one more year left on his contract. You sure he is a FA? IF he is a FA, then maybe we could do a sign and trade? Mo T for Ostertag and Arroyo? Throw in a future 1st and they might do it.

    Utah wouldn't do that.

Why would they trade us Arroyo for Mo Taylor? It's not like they plan on resigning Ostertag. And there's no way I'd want to give GO another $8mil/yr salary.

You'd have to "throw-in " more than that, just to make the salaries work. Arroyo is going to get more than 5 mil per. Mo T. makes 8.5 mil.
Tags is going to get less than the 8.5 he got last season, but probably somewhere north of 5 mil. So we have to include at least 1 other guy, like Pike. Then we have to make the deal attractive to Utah, with Boki or Gaines or something else with the TE to reward them for helping us get rid of a bad contract.

They don't want to do this until they complete the free agent signings.
They are hoarding cap space to make a run at Kmart and Boozer and Okur. After they get somebody inked (after July 15), then we can try to trade a cap albatross like Mo T. We can prep the deal and have it waiting in the wings, though.

They would be smart to get Kmart and then resign Tags and Arroyo. If they end up with Okur then we have a chance to move them someone, provide they Okur at center.

    Tags
    Kmart
    Kirienko
    Harpring
    Arroyo/Lopez

That would be a pretty versitile line up for pick and roll ball.

If it's Okur, then we could offer the Mo T - tags deal.

    Okur
    Mo T
    Kirilenko
    Harpring
    Arroyo/Lopez

but they could always just do nothing and run Kirilenko at the 4 again, where he's extra quick.

    Okur
    Kirilenko
    Harpring
    Bell
    Arroyo/Lopez

I just get the feeling they are better off with Kirilenko and Harpring at 3 2 instead of 4 3. It gives those guys more room to operate and shoot in pick and roll sets.

Screw Osterfag. There are 100 centers better than him. Plus, I don't want a Jazzhole on this team (reminder of the championship days).

That would be the worst move in the history of the Rockets, and I don't think I could ever root for them again. Ostertag? Really? Come on now.

I believe Ostertag is an unrestricted free agent, meaning no need to involve Utah.

We could do much worse at backup center.

We are already over the cap and MoT brings scoring off of the bench. MoT was with out a doubt one of the best 6th men in the league last year. We will always need scoring off of the bench. Plus MoT is more than capable of stepping in and starting when need be.

Screw Ostertag he does nothing to make the Rockets a better team. In fact trading MoT for Ostertag makes the Rockets a worse team so no way in hell I would do that trade.

I believe taking Greg would be a GREAT idea. He has some balls. It helps that he is from Texas also. He played high school ball at perennial powerhouse Duncanville. He shoots close to 50% defends well, and has some energy for a 7'2 guy. It pains me to say that he was the one center that gave Hakeem problems defensively, however it would make me smile knowing that he would be backing up Yao and giving other people fits for a change.

Have you visited a Jazz forum? They dislike Ostertag more than we dislike MoT!

That's because Ostertage made the same amount of cash as MoT...

... And for that matter, anyone universally hated by Jazz fans is okay in my book.
