I have seen this rumor 3 times on the internet in 3 different spots. Since this is only a rumor, I don't feel compelled to source it because no credibility is added. My questions for this BBS are- 1. Has anybody else heard this rumor? 2. Do you think this makes sense for Miami and Houston? 3. Would you do this trade for the chance at Q. Woods, Jeffries, or Tskitishvili?
I think the only way we get one of those 3's Woods or J.Jeffries, we would have to move ahead of 2 sf starved teams , Miami and Washington. The only bait i can see us throwing out there is thomas, collier and the 15 for trash and the number 8 from the clipps. We might even have to add the 2005 draft pick.Other than that don't expect Woods or Jeffries to fall past those two,
I'd make the deal if Tsika was still available, maybe J. Jeffries, but not Woods. I'd be pleased if we took Nachbar or Chris Jeffries at 15 and kept KT though.
It is not a rumor. I suggested it about two months ago and a poster, an expert on the CBA, said it could not be done. I cannot remember the explanation but I thought that Miami needed two players out of this draft and that would give them that. I even thought that the teams could arrange for Miami to pick houston's choice at number 10 and Houston pick Miami's choice at #15. Then after July 1, finalize the deal. Because of KT's low salary we would not have to take much back, and whatever we took, we could waive. At the time I was hoping for Stoudemire and I still do even now that we have the #1 pick. When ROCKET!!! came out with his sweetheart deals, I said any moves/ machinations must net us a 5 combo that is greater than Ming, Cato and Collier. Byron Scott would love that combo now. It is no wonder that that is exactly where we are heading. And after we saw what Shaq is doing to NJ, you cannot take having deep bulk and size for granted. Just for good measure and whether or not EG has put on 30lbs, I would love to add Stoudamire. Finally, if the other teams in the NBA sit by and allow LA to pick up Q Woods, we will all be in trouble. I cannot believe the LA Clippers or anyone else are going to be so suicidal to allow LAK the opportunity to pick up Woods.
Ditto! I'd rather KEEP KT and draft a Nachbar or Jeffries. KT has already proven himself to be a very solid NBA player. Why get rid of him?
There isn't that big of a difference between 10 and 15. Why would we give up one of our best players just to move up 5 spots? I could maybe see it happening if we were moving into the top 10 from the 20s but not from 15.(nevermind, I wouldn't do that either)
Not to mention the fact that we may need a back up at the four. Mo may not make it back to 100%, and he will probable be out of shape through the first couple of months.
I would do that trade in a second. Especially if Ming and Dunleavy are in the draft, that ensures that someone good is going to drop. It might be Tisk, Woods, Wilcox, or who knows, maybe even Gooden. I would easily trade the 15 and KT for any of those players. We would probably be using the 15 for a sf anyways, so it would be just like upgrading our player and although I understand that KT has been a solid player for us, it lightens the load at pf which will end up helping our team.
The last thing this team needs is <i>2</i> rookies. Eddie Griffin and Yao Ming will take long enough to develop as it is and Mobley and Francis still make rookie mistakes. This team needs a young veteran in the worst way, someone with 4+ years of NBA experience. Don't get caught up in the pre-draft hype. The majority of these kids after pick #10 suck and take time to develop - if they ever even pan out. The Rockets <i>have</i> to make the playoffs next year and they won't get there with basically a rookie frontcourt of Griffin/Ming playing alongside an embarassment in Maurice Taylor. It's the same crap every year - "<i>oooh....DeSagana Diop looks like an ox......rumors say this kid Kedrick Brown can dunk from halfcourt.....Nachbar is the next Peja Stojakovich.</i>" If you think Ming is all that, take him, but don't waste your team with two projects. Trade Kenny Thomas and the #15 for an established veteran who knows how to play basketball and quit wasting my time.
If KT is willing to play as the backup behind EG, then yes he should stay. As for Taylor, send him to China. The Rockets have a greater chance winning rings with EG in the paint, paired with Yao Ming. Talking about block party and change the other team into a jumper shooting one. KT is a solid starting pf but has his limitations. Otherwise trade him and the 15th pick to move up and snatch a quality sf, or a solid veteran sf. Trade quality for quality and fill up the biggest hole in the team, no loss there. Who is the best sf, rookie or veteran, within reach with KT and 15th?
thacabbage, Probably the biggest obstacle to doing a KT + #15 for an established vet is the salary issue. KT + #15 carries little weight in the salary part of the trade, while an established vet that is worth the Houston package, will be at a significantly higher pay scale or about to jump to that scale. Adding Rice or Cato in the trade package to establish an equality in salary traded, lessens the value of the Houston package and the quality of the player to be obtained with it. Mango
This is a very interesting question. The trade is out there, Miami is actively shopping the #10, but it is a tough question for the Rockets. I like Kenny a lot and I think Ming will help his game tremendously, by pulling out the opposing centers and leaving space for him to drive. On the other side, Kenny is probably too small to ever be a great PF and the Rockets have comitted to other players who play the same position: MoTaylor, Eddie Griffin, Cato (who will be tried in a twin tower lineup) and most likely will lose him to free agency next year. To top off the complexity, the BPA at 10 will likely be a PF as well (Stodemire, Jefires, Wilcox, Hillario). I personally do not know what the right call here is...
The team needs a defensive wingplayer who can shut down guards and SFs. Who's out there that can do it? Artest, Bowen and Chris Jeffries are the only two that come to mind. Bowen's a bit old for this club and I'm not sure Inidana would part with Artest. I don't see Jeffries as a project. He wqould be needed for defense and whatever offense he would provide would be a bonus. He can contribute his first year. Plus if his jumper ever got consistent, he would be one hell of a player.
KT is probably holed up in a gym shooting 500 jumpers a day and working on his conditioning and handles. He has the desire to be a star and prove all the guys wrong who want to trade him just to move up a meaningless slot or two in the draft as they believe the hype about every prospect. The guy has gotten no respect from the beginning. The incredible thing is that all he has done is work his ass off and get better every year. Game after game he outplayed the Antonio Davis' s and many players most of the posters would give their left nut to get. With his work ethic there is no reason to think he is done improving. With his strength, quick step, superb foot work and decent foot speed he is very underated athletically. Until recently, people were thinking that fading wall flower who can't shoot ,TMo,was going to be a better player than KT. Fortunately Rudy seems to understand his value. Why can't clutch city posters see that in our title run he is our Rick Fox or Malik? Rose from San Antonio. He is the closest we have to a young Mario Ellie. Guess what guys, sometimes character counts more than such physical dimensions as wingspan.
we drafted kenny thomas around #15 and now yall are talkin bout tradin him and the #15 pick for the #10 pick basically ur sayin kt is a bust i dont agree kt and # 15 is better than any1 we can get at #10 cept MAYBE woods but i still wouldnt do it
