I was just watching the NBA beat and they had the rockets spanish radio play by play man who said the rockets were in trade talks about acquring a young power forward who would help us alot with our rebounding. He couldnt reveal the players name because he got the information from a rockets source high up in the organization. There's been alot of trade talk on this board about Shareef but from what he said it doesnt seem like Abdur Rahim they are going after. What young, rebounding power forward are the rockets going after? Any thoughts? ------------------
Is the Spanish play by play guy paid by the Rockets? Something seems strange about this. Mango ------------------ Lets get the Mo Go working! Test Your NBA Trade Ideas 1. Are Bill and Calvin paid by the rockets? I dont think so but you know both of them have great access to the team and personell associated with the team so I think what he said has validity.Trust me, I see this guy on TV every time the rocks play at home and he wouldnt make something up ------------------
Yes, he is. If it is Adrian Chavarria you are talking about, he is paid by the Rockets just like Gene & Jim, Bill & Calvin. It is odd that he would say something like that. You don't usually hear rumors from play-by-play guys. ------------------ The way to use life is to do nothing through acting, The way to use life is to do everything through being. - Lao-Tzu
Just so there is no confusion. All Rockets announcers, play-by-play, color commentators, broadcast people, etc. are paid by the Rockets. This includes Chavarria, Worrell, Murphy, Peterson, Foley, Joel Blank, Jeff Haggadorn, etc. ------------------ The way to use life is to do nothing through acting, The way to use life is to do everything through being. - Lao-Tzu [This message has been edited by Jeff (edited January 05, 2001).]

That the Rockets are looking at a trade is not the strange part. That the leak would be by a play by play guy is the odd part. Seems like you are smiling.....know something? I'm no expert, but knowing the Rockets as I do, and the type of players they go after, I'll take a stab at this one. Austin Croshere. He is agressive on the glass, can play either forward spot, can shoot, and due to underperforming I've heard might be on the block by Indy. If we were to get him though, I'd sure hope we gave them Cato, cause Croshere is awfully overpaid too. Don't need two of those guys on one team. Just my speculation though- could be a number of other players. We'll see. ------------------ President of the Jason Collier and Mo Taylor fan club! Draftsource.net ClutchTown.com
Between Rudy's "small ball" and Austin, Walt becomes an expensive 11th man. If its Austin, Walt has to go. Mango ------------------ Lets get the Mo Go working! Test Your NBA Trade Ideas 1. Mango- I've read a number of places Isiah Thomas still likes Walt a lot, b/c he did have him as a Raptor if I'm correct. I'm just saying that in a dream world, we could get the center-less Pacers to take Cato off of our hands as well as Walt and get another player with less salary in return with Austin. Of course, all speculation here. ------------------ President of the Jason Collier and Mo Taylor fan club! Draftsource.net ClutchTown.com
There are NO trades that work with Croshere because of his BYC status. Cato is in the same boat really. Williams is probably one of the guys on the list and possibly Carlos Rogers considering his play of late. To me, it would have to either be a guy that could play both the 3 and the 4 or a guy who could back up at both the 4 and 5. Otherwise, why even have Mo Taylor on the team in the first place AND why keep Kenny Thomas? ------------------ The way to use life is to do nothing through acting, The way to use life is to do everything through being. - Lao-Tzu
Austin has a full BYC contract. Cato has a full BYC contract. You have to do some serious clicking at realgm to get something to fit. Mango ------------------ Lets get the Mo Go working! TheCat: reading bskball.com again? Walt is currently shooting better than Croshere... and Croshere barely beats him out in any significant categories which raises the question: what position has Austin been playing w/ the Pacers? Is he playing the 4 or 3? Close to the basket or perimeter? If anyone, IMO, get rid of Cato. ------------------ We're going to stay together until something happens, if something happens. - Sidney Lowe on Shareef's career in Vancouver.
By the way, we are all talking about ditching Cato for players but he isn't exactly at the top of his game healthwise. Who's to say he would even pass a physical? Besides, what does everyone here do if Cato comes back from injury and starts averaging 10 boards, 3 blocks and has a couple of big games offensively? Do we go from Cato bashing to Cato Love Fest much the same way we did with Taylor? ------------------ The way to use life is to do nothing through acting, The way to use life is to do everything through being. - Lao-Tzu
I have no idea what to make of this.Let's just hope it's a good move whatever it is ------------------ Now chew through my ball sack [This message has been edited by Summer Song Giver (edited January 05, 2001).]
Hadn't been to bskball.com in a while, but just read what he said now that you mentioned it. Just IMO, considering the Rockets interest earlier this summer and the description, he does seem to fit. The Pacers have played him more at the 4, but some at the 3 as well. He started most games at the 3, but frequently played the 4, as Jermaine O'Neal shifted to C, him to PF, and Rose, Miller, and Best left to fill the other 3 spots. Croshere obviously, however, is younger than Walt with much more potential. In our system I think he could flourish. ------------------ President of the Jason Collier and Mo Taylor fan club! Before I go spastic... does Johnathan Bender (wasn't he the 2nd coming of Dream) have a serious back injury? By the way, Cato for Fizer works first try. ------------------ We're going to stay together until something happens, if something happens. - Sidney Lowe on Shareef's career in Vancouver.
