This is just a thought I had for a way for the Rockets to get a couple of more guys and still have the MLE left over to spend this offseason. This idea is on the basis that the sign and trade for Berry does happen. Sign and Trade idea: Houston trades: Taylor Lakers trade: Medvedenko Fisher WHY LAKERS DO IT. Whether or not the core of the team comes back, they need that scoring off the bench. They had NO useful bench players whatsoever last season (except maybe Rush in stretches) and MoT can really help them in key stretches of a game. WHY HOUSTON DOES IT. MEDVENDENKO. I hate Medvedenko as much as the next guy, but he is just a throw in to match contracts but he can come in a hit some mid-range jumpers at the 4. Plus he will be cheap. FISHER. They get a quality, veteran point and moves Berry to the 2 and TMac to the 3. Everyone has debated whether to get Fisher or Berry, this way they get both and enhances the versatlity in the back court that much more. Just look at the multiple positions we can throw these guys out there depending on matchups. PG: Fisher Lue Berry Gaines SG: Berry TMac Fisher Gaines Jackson Nachbar SF: Berry TMac Jackson Nachbar That is unbelievable versatlity and the Rockets still have the MLE to spend on a quality backup center such as Skinner or Foyle. Fisher/Lue/Gaines Berry/Jackson/Gaines/Nachbar TMac/Jackson/Nachbar Howard/Medvedenko/Weatherspoon Yao/Free Agent/Weatherspoon I think this is a nice lineup going into the season and, if anything, we have stock-piled some cheap talent to offer at the trade deadline to try to get a better solution at the 4 or backup 5.
I would rather see Spoon, maybe Pike go for Fish and Medvewhatever. Either way i want Fisher in a rockets uni. I dont think Slava would survive on the rockets very long b4 Jeff pulls a Bobby Knight and starts kicking the crap out of him for shooting the ball like crazy
I would be happy with that trade. Two other possibilities I like are Taylor for Austin Croshere or Derek Anderson.
MLE is the mid-level exception, sometimes called the middle class exception. It is equal to the average salary of all of the players, and teams over the salary cap can offer this amount to one player per year (or is it every other year, I can't remember).
It's every year if the team is over the cap. And if they fall under the cap, they have to choose between cap space or exceptions. Apart from the fact I really don't see Medvedenko playing for Van Gundy, in order to match Mo T's salary both players would probably become BYC in order to match. I'll pass. Although Slava wouldn't...
