I hardly ever start trade idea posts but this idea seemed like a good one both for us and for the other team so I was curious to hear others thoughts on it. Cleveland is looking for a PF to replace Boozer. They are at the point they are looking at Vin Baker of all people! How desperate is that!?!? Would they be interested in Mo Taylor? Sure his contract is hideous but his production, particularly in the East, might be worth it to the Cavs. How about a Taylor for Tony Battie and S&T Eric Williams? (FYI, word is that the Cavs are up to doing a S&T for Williams and currently the Celtics are looking hard at Willliams again). I love this trade from the Rockets perspective. We get a solid rebounding PF in Battie who only has 2 years remaining on his contract. He would be a nice counterpart to the scoring PF we have in Howard. Additionally Battie is a shot blocker and can swing to the C spot when Yao is out. And we would get a versitle SF in Williams who would be a solid bench player and could be our defensive stopper on the wing. I like the idea of letting McGrady rest on defense and putting Williams on the more difficult wing cover. You could sign Williams to a 3 year deal and we would be set. You would have TWO modestly priced bench role players instead of ONE hideously priced bench role player with a contract that goes on forever. I think it is a slam dunk for both sides! Get on it CD!
It is Boozer's minutes per rebound stat that Cleveland will miss more than the points scored. Mo can cover the points scored area, but will fail in the minutes per rebound stat. Doubtful that the Cavs would be interested in Mo.
I like the trade for the Rockets, but there are 2 problems I see from the Cavs standpoint. I think the Cavs will be looking for a great rebounder to replace those 11 rebounds they lost from Boozer. Taylor doesn’t help them much there. Pairing Z and Taylor makes them a little soft inside. I don’t care what the Cavs say, I don’t think the reason they're not matching Boozers contract is because they’re unwilling to trade their whole team away, I think it’s because they don’t think Boozer is worth 11 million per year. Taylor at 9 mil per year is not much of a better contract.
I'd love to have Eric Williams on the Rox! He's the type of guy that puts you over the top in the playoffs, akin to a certain "Kiss of Death" Mario Elie. Battie would be perfect for the swing 5. Sign me up, but I don't think that Mo and the TE would get it done. There are a lot of one dimensional players in the league (Mo has little value with his albatross contract) and his propensity to black hole would almost directly offset the extra passing ability generated by King James at the 3.
Sure both are fine defensive players, I'd do it definitely. Seen both play in Boston and they would be good fits here. Plus MoT is redundant with Juwan Howard. I find it kind of funny that last year we were trying to trade Cat, EGriffin, and Boki for the same two players. Remember that?
But they would be interested in Vin Baker instead?!? Think about that! They still have Diop as a backup C. I think eventually Z will be traded and Diop will be the starting center. He cant score too well but can rebound and block shots which would leave the low post scoring up to Taylor.
AD or DJ or whoever MB /TL/MW TM/EW/EP/RG JJ/EW/BN/AG JH/TB/CW YM/TB I'd do it. I like Eric Williams and Tony Battie a lot. They both hustle and they are both good players. They are veterans..solid. I wonder how old they are...not that old. I would add a first round draft pick..haha we won't have any left if we give one to Seattle too. Or we could give them..Adrian Griffin and/or Mike Wilks..or 2nd rounders. I'd like to keep Reece and Boki. Send cash? I'd do it! But yeah Big Z and Mo would be pretty soft..I wish it happened though.
DON'T be so sure Mango! As the boards unofficial "Cleveland representative" ( ), I think it's safe to say there's a really good chance the Cavs would pull the trigger on this if the Rocks offered it. Battie and Williams aren't that valued by the Cavs, and their names are always coming up in trade rumors, and a few days ago on the news MoT was actually one of the PF's that was mentioned for a Boozer replacement. The Cavs need offense, and Taylor can give us that, so if the offer was made, i'm pretty sure it would be accepted.
Keep in mind, in the East, many of the C/PF combos are soft, at least compared to the West. The East already had few good PFs and just lost two of the best ones in Martin and Boozer. Of course to counter that the East got Shaq.
Thanks for the info on that. Good to see Cleveland might be considering it. Taylor just has no future here with the Rockets the way this team is set up and his LONG term contract is a killer for us. If we could parlay him into TWO bench role players with a SHORTER contract length that would really help us both now and in the long term. And Cleveand really is a great place for Taylor to go as his skills would be well used there. For Cleveland it would be like trading Battie for Taylor (since Williams wasnt going to resign with the Cavs). I think the Cavs fans would appreciate the talent upgrade and might slightly soften the Boozer loss.
Nice proposal. It would definitely bring the "lunchpail guys" we need to complement our somewhat soft stars: Yao, TMac and Howard. History says we won't win big without a few Junkyard Dawgs. Given our PG-acquiring difficulties... why not piggyback the old Pike for Ollie trade onto this one? Mo + Pike for Battie + Williams + Ollie I'd jump at either version.
You're wrong. CLE has no interest in retaining Williams because he's effective in the post where Z will be planted and his lack of outside shooting always the other teams to help out on Z and Lebron . Besides, they're paying Newble $3m for the next 3 years to do the same thing. CLE will not trade Battie because of the veteran presence he brings in the looker room. If CLE would have any interest in Taylor it would be for something like a resigned Williams and Ollie for Taylor. Or the TE for a resigned Williams in which case I think they would look at a SnT for Stromile Swift. I don't know if this is possible but a 3 way deal where Williams goes to BOS, Chucky Atkins goes to HOU, and the TE goes to CLE could help each club out.
I dont want E. Williams eating away at Nachbar's minutes. JVG has promised we will see Boki more. I'm thinking its about time to see what he is made of.....maybe he can be JJ's replacement, best case scenario.......
FYI, if we WERE able to make the deal I mentioned above, we would then still have our FULL MLE and our TE to add to the team. As for the revised Ollie/Williams for Taylor proposal. Not as excited about that. I dont like Ollie's contract. It is the length of it that bothers me.
WTF do you mean I'm wrong? I live in Cleveland! I've heard nothing BUT "How are the Cavs going to replace Carlos Boozer?" over the last week on the news/in the newspaper! And believe me, Taylor's name has come up as a possible replacement, and Battie's veteran presence is NOT enough to make him immune to a trade.
Make it Taylor, Adrian Griffin and a pick for Battie, Wagner and Kedrick Brown and WE DO HAVE A DEAL .
..........no. have you seen Booth play, not to mention his horrible play. i'd just keep Mo if that's the case. the Mo for Battie and EW makes sense for both but is a bit homer(ish) IMO. maybe a pick or Lue needs to be included.
