Please join this thread with any of the other 1/2 dozen draft threads if needed But here is a wild hair trade idea I think the Texans ought to consider: Contact Green Bay- Inquire if Brett Farve would be willing to play 2 more seasons. Here it is- Texans trade David Carr and one of their third round picks to Green Bay for Brett Farve and the Packer's 1st rd. pick Packers get a starter in David Carr with Aaron Rogers in the wings and resolve the Brett Farve issue. Texans retain the #1 pick and get the 5th pick. Texans draft VY #1 to back up Farve and develop. Texans can then draft one of the following at the fifth pick- Bush, Brick, Williams (assuming Leinart goes top 4) Is VY and Williams or Brick > Bush? Is VY and Bush sweet!
So let me get this straight. Favre is considering retirement because he hasn't seen Green Bay do enough this offseason to make it a competitive team....and he's going to come to the worst team in the league? Great idea.
Farve is considering retirement because he is cross with the team and loves the coach that is now the offensive coordinator at Houston. Farve is also disappointed with his own play. Farve could be talked by Sherman and Kubiak into a 2 yr deal with an option. Farve doesn't think at all he is done.
You Carr haters are just going to have to get used to the fact that he's not going anywhere... If he doesn't improve this year, then I'll be right there with you. But you can't judge him based on the horrible offensive scheme he's been forced to play in for the last 4 years. I'll say it before and I'll say it again. If Kubiak can do what he did with Jake Plummer, imagine what he can do with Carr. Why trade him and use the #1 overall pick to take the projected 3rd rated QB in the draft? One more year.
I don't hate Carr- I think he has terrible timing on long passes, I think he should run more when protection breaks down. I think he has trouble picking up outlet receivers, I think he freezes out Andre Johnson in the offense way too often forcing the ball to inferior receivers (bad decision making). He does not read coverage well. What I like is that he has a strong arm, can make all the short throws. Plays tough. Has good speed and quickness when he runs, He also is an accurate passer up to 15 yds. He seems smart and coachable. None of that has to do with schemes. All the schemes were fine when we were 7-9 and they all stunk when we were 2-14. Carr is below avg. and he might improve. He certainly has the physical tools. I am really concerned about his decision making and poor timing on deep routes. I won't be devastated if he is the QB but I sure hate having a choice between him and VY. If Carr was coming out of Fresno St. this year and VY was there also we would be idiots to rate Carr ahead of Young. Just like those who are saying Cutler (Carr clone) is better than Young. That's my humble little opinion.
Green Bay won't know if he'll stick around for 2 seasons, they don't even know what he wants to do right now. Plus, Carr couldn't draw a 1st round pick, but you are getting Favre plus #5 overall for him?
I disagree, the texans should trade Domanick Davis to the Jets so that he can take over when Curtis Martin retires(he only has like 5 years left). Then trade Babin + all the other picks in the draft to the Titans at 3(they need lots of players). Draft Bush at number one, Mario Williams at 3, then VY at number 4. Bush / Alston VY / Wesley TMac / Bowen Mario / Bowen Yao / Bowen my team is better.
I don't disagree with any of this, but my point is that all of these things can be fixed with a good offensive mind/QB mentor like Kubiak. I would also argue that this does have to do with a bad offensive scheme. I agree with this too. Another reason I think we should wait and see what he can do with Kubiak at the helm. These are the exact kinds of things Kubiak can help him with. You said yourself he has the physical tools, so why give up on him before the new staff has a chance to help him? Which you're entitled to. Even if it's wrong.
