Get Boston on the phone 'cuz the big man is on the block.Trading Bagwell and getting the best deal possible should be management's top priority this offseason. No doubting he's the greatest nonpitcher ever to wear the uniform but it's time to move on.All I've heard this offseason is how overloaded we are in the outfield when this is only partly true, truth be known we are overloaded at first base.Trading Bagwell would be best for the club, first off it gives Daryll Ward a full time job at the position he is best suited for(first base)secondly with Ward no longer in the outfield we can keep our depth out there in case of injury(five guys competing for three jobs is a log jam, four guys is depth).Thirdly Bagwell would broker more in return than both Ward and Cedeno.Fourth Bagwell is thirty three years old is he really worth paying 15 million a year when chances are he will begin to slow Even if he is able to play at his current level where would the money be best spent? It is my opinion it would be better spent on pitching.None of this will probably happen but let's face facts signing Bagwell is not going to make us contenders to the Yanks and keeping him will likely mean losing some of our younger talent. We are at a crossroads where we can keep trying to force our way through a window that closes a little more every year(some would argue this window shut two years ago) or the chance to begin looking for another window without having to leave the house.

SSG, You are hereby banned from my fantasy BBall league [IMG]j/k

Trading Bags does not solve any problems. Actually it creates more. You talk like 33 is old. Bags is in his prime right now!!!

Finn I agree he is in his prime but do we really have a chance to compete this year or would it be better to trade him now while we can get the most for him and hope baseball does something to restore parity in a few years when the young guys like Hidalgo Ward Berkman Meluskey Lugo and the pitchers will just be entering their primes.Do you really think we're World Series contenders with or without BagwellIt seems to me that noone with the current state of baseball will be winning any titles except the Yanks.

SSG - so noone's going to win any titles except the Yankees. Should the Stros just give up? Why not trade away Biggio, Alou, Wagner and Reynolds, too? We can become Expos-south.

With Bagwell, we have a chance to win the world series.

Without him, no chance at all.

How do you replace a 40-45 hr 120-140 rbi 120-140 runs scored player?

    You don't.

That's why the Astros must re-sign Bagwell AND make some deals for some better pitching. The window is closing, and it's up to Drayton to open up his purse strings now that we've built him a new playpen!

This team in it's prime with a Dominant ace(Randy Johnson)Couldn't get out of the first round of the playoffs now your going to try and sell me that basically the same team minus some pitching is going to be better and even got a chance at winning it all?Even if we get Neagle who most would agree is the best available to the Stros we are still dark horses to even make the playoffs.Rebuilding is never easy but let's face facts this is a team of chokers and playoff underachievers and it is time to move on.

Well Randy Johnson certainly helped out the Arizona Diamondbacks this year, didn't he?

SSG, you have fallen hook, line and sinker for this rebuild garbage. What exactly is rebuilding? The Expos? They are constantly rebuilding (spinning their wheels) The Florida Marlins? (charging Major League prices for minor league ball)

With Free-Agency, there is no more rebuilding. Either you win or you lose. You simply sign the players you need or you lose.

The Astros are 1 quality pitcher (and of course Lima and Reynolds bouncing back) away from being a legitimate threat to win the World Series.

This isn't just about rebuilding the Astros anymore its about saving baseball, and to do that the Red Sox must stop the Yankees. [IMG]

Hey if the only hope for baseball is for the Red Sox to beat the Yankees... the game is doomed already. [IMG]

    Trade Bagwell?

It seems like a good idea, you know, because that's how most franchises improve their team in baseball, by trading their best player to another team.

Why don't you post his playoff numbers. Does the term "grapenuts" come to mind? If you can't hit in the playoffs, you're worthless.

You dont trade bagwell, period. He is the backbone of the franchise and as for SSG's statement that we are rebuilding because of last years sorry record, he may be right or he maybe wrong. Personally, I think last year was an aberration and the astros will make the playoffs home again. Now im all in favor of dealing ward and or cedeno for good young starting pitching and bullpen help. Also the stros get a healthy wags back a healthy reynolds and i think lima will turn it around because he wants to. Bottom line, dont trade jeff bagwell, build around him and i fully expect the astros to make the playoffs next year. Do you agree?

    Id trade Bagwell-
he is the onyl player we have that can get us a solid true ace pitcher in return.
But Id only trade him if it was a good trade, not just for the sake of it. One thing is for sure though, it would be absolutely idiotic for Hunsicker to not at least look into what other teams might be willing to offer.

I would definatley not trade bags unless we got a 25-27 year old pitcher with some mad skillz, and a couple minor league players with some mad potentiol. If you cant get that for him, then keep him and just trade alou for some pitching.....should have done that two years ago when he came off an awesome season but thats in the past and we cant change that.

Come one SamCassel. Everyone knows that if the Red Sox beat the Yankees, the Curse will be broken and Baseball will revert back to the way it used to be.

The next time I have meat and mashed potatoes, I think I'll put a very large blob of potatoes on my plate with just a little piece of meat. And if someone asks me why i didn't get more meat, ill just say, "Oh, you mean this?" and pull out a big piece of meat from inside the blob of potatoes, where ive hidden it. Good magic trick, huh?
