At this point in Tracy's nba career where do you think he will end up at in his postion.

Along with Dr. J, Pippen, Bird, and others i think he has a chance to be put in the same category.

This is assuming of course that you dont consider him a SG.

His playoff achievements will only put him on the top of that list...

Last years episode with the Magic will always be used by critics for the rest of his career so he already has a lot of ground to make up for it.

It will all come down to how many rings he has when he calls it a career.

exactly. i also wonder how long he'll still be considered a sg. in fact i gurantee he'll be listed as a sg on next years all-star ballot. anyways no matter what his position, if he gets a couple rings he'll be considered among the best ever period.

Never mention Quitten as one of the best of anything except "the best luckiest, no good piece of crap."

    He is scum.

He wouldn't have accomplished anything without MJ. He doesn't deserve on any positive list.

if you consider those three in the same category than T-Mac is already in it.
But Pippen should never be mentioned in the same breath with Dr. J or Bird. (expect when you say. Bird is the best SF ever, oh and pippen was the most overrated). T-Mac is already so much better then pippen.

Like others mentioned it will depent on his play-off succes. and rings:D

Bird will always be the best... unless T-Mac wins a few rings for us :)

needs to do it in the playoffs. the NBA is a playoff-centered game. the regular season is often overlooked for accomplishments. different from the NFL or MLB, that way.

i'm rooting for him. he's easy to root for!

I also think he is really a SG. He's only playing SF now because we don't have a SF.

He's a guard. And it's way too soon.

The distance between Tmac and Bird is not much shorter than
    that between Hakeem and Yao.

Unfortunately, T-Mac has some bad history behind him. His exodus from Toronto and from Orlando both were ugly and it left him with some image problems. If it weren't for that, he would probably be getting as much respect and admiration as other greats who were legendary, but didn't win rings (Charles Barkley, Karl Malone, etc.). So, in order for Tracy to gain some of that respect, he will probably need to win at least one championship.

This would be a perfect year for us to win a championship:
    • T-Mac could get some better respect
    • It would make Weisbrod look like the total fool that he is
    • With the NHL gone, more eyes would be on the Rockets championship than ever
    • JVG could prove that he's a champion coach
    • Yao could find great success while his career is still quite young

Tmac would need to win more before you mention him with that group. Does he have the talent? sure. But until he becomes a champion that will always hang over him.

Tmac could become like those guys.. or he might end up like Nique just depends on what he does in the playoffs.

You are going to get bashed by putting Pippen together with legends like Dr. J and Bird.

edit: You did get bashed. :D

I think you are underrating Hakeem, or overrating Yao, or underrating TMac. Unless you are talking about winning championships, which I never use as the primary factor for rating greatness of a player.

In terms of talents and the intangibles of making teammates better, TMac is much closer to Bird than Yao is to Hakeem.

I'm one of those who thinks McGrady is a shooting guard, who can swing to the 3 given the right matchup. I think he sees himself as a SG. I'm hoping that we can get someone in the next season or two who can let Tracy play his natural position, where he creates a nightmare for any opposing team.

He'll never reach the level of Bird. Dominique Wilkins maybe. But not Bird.

Tmac will never reach the level of Bird; and
Yao will never reach the level of Hakeem.
=> Tmac is not much closer to Bird than Yao is to Hakeem.

Bird revolutionized the game and is an icon of the golden era of NBA.
