I'm sure that I'm not the only one who noticed that last night's crowd was full of Indians. It resembled the world's largest ISA (Indian Students Association) meeting. I had no idea that there was this kind of fan support in the Indo-Pak community for the Rockets. There were entire sections of the crowd that were full of rowdy Indians and Pakistanis, which I thought was pretty impressive. Hell, I still don't have my voice back from all the inappropriate comments directed towards the Jazz (just ask DonnyMost, who was 2 rows in front of me).

I must have seen at least 20-30 Indians that I went to school with at UT, or knew from high school. After the game, the Indians all congregated at Deko in midtown for the afterparty. Aside from the Indians, there were plenty of Asians there as well. All in all, I would say that the white people were in the minority at last night's game. Just an observation.

As long as they were cheering on the Rockets, no matter what ethnicity, is cool in my book.

This is an aside, but I was at Rockets at Celtics a few months back, one of Yao Ming's first games back from the injury... we were sitting next to two Indian guys, who were rooting for the Rockets pretty hardcore.

I mean isolated incident, but goes to support your observation.

I know you're not intending to be controversial, but the thread title could be taken to be offensive... and the reality is that Houston is as diverse a city as there is in the entire south, and most asian/indian people are not only huge basketball (or sports fans) in general... but most of them can also afford the $$$ to attend the games.

All my South Asian (i.e. "Desis") friends are HARDCORE Rockets fans. Same goes for a lot of Middle Easterners that I have encountered as well.

I would probably say that out of most ethnic communities, South Asians are the most supportive of the Rockets. That's just my experience though.

A very diverse crowd, and very high energy. I don't understand why people aren't giving more props to the crowd for last night's game. Once Tracy started showing just a little bit of energy in the second half, the whole place got absolutely raucous, and probably contributed a lot to the Jazz meltdown.

And to rehash an old subject, thanks again to the Rowdies. People don't feel self-conscious about getting up and screaming because they can't possibly be bigger jackasses than Van Gundy's boys. :D It gets real boisterous real fast in there.

Another favorite moment for me (that probably reflected the diversity of the crowd) was when President Bush's face went up on the screen for the stupid celebrity look-a-like segment. He got booed harder than any of the Jazz last night. In Houston! Don't think you'll be seeing him again during the playoffs.

Largest Chinatown in the US? I think New York City and San Francisco probably has something to say about that.

Yea, in terms of the US chinatowns, Houston isn't even close... Chicago also has a big enough chinatown that there's actually a "new" and "old" chinatown right next to each other.

    Maybe meant in Texas.

I could venture as to why this is a likely reality (being south asian and all).

Most desi parents immigrated over in the 70's, early 80's... and thus their kids' formative years coincide with the Rocket's most successful years.

I said the thread title may be considered to be offensive... not to mention that it shouldn't be suprising when any large ethnic group is anywhere in this city. Houston is THAT diverse... it really shouldn't matter if indians go to a basketball game, asians go to a golf event, black people attend a baseball game, or white people attend a boxing match.

(also, there's the fact that the name 'bombay' technically doesn't exist anymore).

In terms of size of Chinese population, LA is probably #1.
