well the 'mats got back together to record two new songs for the upcoming best of cd due in June. Tommy Stinson is playing bass for G n' R and is also the full-time bassist for Soul Asylum. BUt....rumor has it they is a tour in the works! I can't wait to see Paul Westerberg in all his drunken glory! Also, Rhino will be re-releasing re-mastered versions of all their albums, topped off with a BOXSET i guess with the replacements, you just never know. I hope they hit the road!
I've been reading about this for weeks and have been hearing this and that concerning an eventual tour but I really will not believe anything until I see it in print. I'm praying my ass off that it happens but I'm not one to get my hopes up too high, like a true Mat's fan. Let's hope that they've kissed and made up.
yea i read about it i think a month ago I was listening to this podcast called "the rock n' roll geek show" yesterday and the guy has some contacts and said supposedly their getting back together... but again with paul and the gang you never know. also have you heard the two new songs? Tommy did an interview with Jim Rome of all people...I have the mp3's if you want them...
I know Jim Rome is a HUGE fan and usually finds time to talk about them on his show. I would freaking LOVE to have them except I still don't have an mp3 player. If you could provide a link that would probably be helpful, hell I still don't even know how to work the qoutes on this board without f!@#ing it up. For now I will have to go back and dig out my Treatment Bound Mat's videotape and my Bummerfest live cassette to keep me satisfied. I don't know if you've seen Treatment Bound but there is an interview with Paul and Tommy were Paul is talking about GnR and he pretty much calls them brainless. I still can't get over Tommy being in the GnR after all these years since watching that interview about 12 years ago.
I have a 2 dvd set i bought off of ebay awhile back...it has all the videos/live/snl from TIM, Pleased to meet me, don't tell a soul, all shook up...bada&& anyways...give me your email, and i'll email them to you when i get home.
Now that's what I love to hear. A reunion tour with the Replacements would be great, but especially if they are making music together again. My loyalty to the band caused me to scream, and make obscene gestures at a horrible band that sounded like the Rembrandts of all things. The guys in that band seemed nice, but I couldn't take any more sissy pop. Then when their last song was a cover of Bastards of Young, I lost it. I was screaming, and flipping them off, and making a fool of myself. That is one song that nobody in their right mind wants to end up sounding like the theme song from Friends.
I didn't quite understand the last paragraph. You were mad that the rembrandts did a cover of bastards of young? or were you mad about the last few 'mats albums being "soft"?
It was a band that sounded like the Rembrandts. I don't even remember their name. I was at the show to see the Old '97's. This other band was opening. They sounded like the Rembrandts, but they seemed nice enough, and so I was just going to write them off. Then they did their cover version of Bastards of Young. I hope that is more clear. Sorry for not being clera earlier. I get riled up just thinking about it.
im still confused. Are you mistaking the rembrandts with the replacements? no offense but the rembrandts suck!!!!!!!!
No no no! I agree the rembrandts suck. That is the problem. There was an opening band for the Old 97's. They sounded like the Rembrandts. I don't remember their name. So let's just call them band A So band A sounded like the Rembrandts. For this reason I didn't like them. But the folks in the band seemed like they were nice, but just misguided musically. I just didn't pay attention. Band A's last song they performed was a cover version of Bastards of Young. Band A caused Bastards of Young to sound like a Remrandts song. I felt that Band A had insulted the Replacements by turning a great tune into something that sounded like the Rembrandts. Because I like the Replacements and hate the Rembrandts, I hate that Band A made a good Replacements song sound like a bad Rembrandts song. Please let me know if this makes sense. I can not let it be in record that anyone believes I like the Rembrandts. It is serious business.
