The only way i see the rockets coming back is pulling off the astros miracle. The astros were 15 games under .500, we are 8. 8 is even harder though, cause the nba has half the games that mlb has. The astros looked like they just had no heart, along with an unimpressive lineup. The offense was a real liability(and still is). Same with the rockets, our lineup is trash right now, and we are also defensively built. Our offense is horrible, we never shoot over 40%. The playoffs were equal/harder for the astros considering how other wild card teams struggled. The astros needed no trades though, and had injuries, not as much as us though. I think we can pull off the same miracle but it is really hard. Time has really run out, if things dont start happening in the next few games, you can say goodbye to the season.
MLB playoffs takes 4 teams from each league, the NBA takes 8, so we're not done yet. I agree we are in a funk, but it is mosty due to injuries. I haven't given up on this season just yet, but with each loss it does bring us one step closer to the lottery.
We have a choice...pull what the Astros did or pull what the Texans did. If we choose to follow in the Texans footsteps, there must be a Reggie Bush waiting for us in the NBA draft, or otherwise it is better for us to try our chances at reaching the playoffs.
Nice! I'm really seeing this season as all but over. Just trying to look at reality. But that won't stop me from watching the games and cheering for them!
It's funny. All of the Houston teams this year have gotten off to horrendous starts. The Astros were able to turn it around and go all the way to the World Series, while the Texans kept going down and ended up with the worst record in the league. Unfortunately, I'm predicting that the Rockets will poetically end up in the middle. They'll make a comeback once Yao comes back, but it won't we good enough to make the playoffs. So not only do we not get a playoff run, but we miss out on a quality draft pick too. I hope I'm wrong, but if we don't start clawing out some wins in the next two weeks then our season is pretty much over.
Mark it down. There ain't no Reggie Bush in this draft. We are going to make a trade, get Yao back and Van Gundy is gonna have this team buzzing down the stretch. We may miss the playoffs but it won't be because we caved. Caving and Van Gundy don't go together. He don't want some rookie and if he gets one, he won't play the role that we need which is a 3rd primary scoring option and shut down perimeter defender. We're still reaching for the playoffs. Prepare for the trade.
What the Astros accomplished was much harder than where the Rockets stand now. At 15-30, EVERYONE wrote them off and the venom directed at Tim Purpura and Drayton McClain was barely printable. The Rockets still have hope. When 95% of us say the Rockets will miss the playoffs, then you can equate the situations. We aren't there yet, but it won't be long if we keep losing.
I hope you are right, because I don't want my loyalty to the Rockets tested like it was against the Astros (I wasn't able to wait).
At 15-30, the assumption was 90 wins would put the Astros in position to compete for the playoffs. The turnaround would require 75/117 = 0.640 winning percentage. Possible, but not ridiculous At 10-18, with the assumption being 45 wins will put the Rockets in position to compete for the playoffs (7th/8th spot). The turnaround requires 35/54 = .648 winning percentage. The Rockets are in a slightly deeper hole than the one the Astros dug. There are 16 games in January. and those will tell the tale.
True, but NOBODY gave the Astros a shot for 90 wins because of their roster. Even the diehards had given up on them. At 15-30 with the team they had, it wasn't reasonable to still think the Astros would make the playoffs. I still can't believe Wandy (ERA 5.53) and Zeke (ERA 5.67) started 36 games and the Stros still came back! And in their first 45 games, they showed almost no pulse. A 64% winning pct for that team was a ridiculous thought at the time. I'm a diehard Rockets fan, but a realist at the same time. I haven't given up yet because it's reasonable to still think they can make the playoffs. The 5-1 road trip showed the Rockets have a pulse. Yes, January probably will tell.
Hey guys, unless I missed it, nobody has considered the fact that we won't have a complete rotation until the record likely gets much worse. Considering that Yao is going to be one of, if not THE last guy to come back, things are looking a lot worse than what has been represented here.
That Astros team was loaded. Had an All-Star calibur player at nearly every position with only the best pitcher ever leading the way. I would hope they would have been able to pull it together at some point. Same goes for us. You would think a team with T-Mac and Yao should be damn near close to unbeatable. We're a couple players getting healthy and a trade away from being a force again, it just needs to happen soon before this season slips away.
At this point I'm not even thinking of the playoffs. I just want the Rox to get the whole team back and we take it from there. If its too late for a playoff run then I hope the Rox play for pride and for us fans.
I appreciate your optmism...We might make a trade...Yao will come back, maybe Sura, too... but, if this Rockets team is going to "buzz down the stretch", I promise you it won`t be because of JVG...If they choose not to "cave", it will be because the players reached down deep and made it happen. In case you haven`t noticed the current record, it is a tell tale sign that even though JVG is a good teacher, he is a pitifully poor motivator...and right now that is what the Rockets need the most!!!
The Nuggets last season Janurary record is similar to ours right now. Then they managed to make a big run straight to the playoff after George Karl took over late Janurary. I hope when Yao comes back, the Rox can give us the same thing
its doable. once the injury bug finally leaves this team, i think they can pull off a great second half run and make 8th-6th spot. with a full roster, this team can do it.
Are you serious? Do you really think that an outfield of Burke, Taveras and Lane was all-star caliber? Everett at short and Ausmus at catcher were all-star caliber? Biggio, at this stage of his career, all-star caliber? The only position players to be all-star caliber at this stage of their careers are Ensberg and Berkman.
