This is great. I pray for all of the soldiers and when I heard about this little girl, I felt awful. I have a children myself and I could see the fathers pain. I sent a special prayer for her. I hope there are others that are rescued. This little girl has seen a lot more than most of us here. God Bless our Soldiers over there. http://www.reuters.com/newsArticle....STZSFSCRBAEOCFFA?type=topNews&storyID=2501565
Very awesome story! Also the state of WV (her home state) told her parents yesterday that they will pick up any expenses for her education that the Military won't. She wants to be a teacher and the Governor said teh state will do everything possible to make sure she is able to realize her dream! Congrats to her! PS- I went to college about 15 miles from her hometown and a few friends of mine is from her homecounty (Wirt County)
To play devil's advocate Why does this POW get more attention than the other POW's? Obvious answer: It's a woman. Point being, if women are going to serve in the military, is this country going to have a hissy over everytime a woman is captured. Keep in mind, she has been in the news long before this raid that freed her. If America is going to react so emotionally over its female soilders, should they be out there, because clearly, it didn't sit to well with many people that one of the POW's was female. Is this fair to the others. If I'm a parent of another male POW, I'm wondering, "Where the hell is the raid to free my son"?
They acted on intelligence tip......If they were other alive POW's they would have been saved and would be on the news also. They did bring back 11 casualties at the same location. I dont think its fair to any parent that their child is being held by a regime that doesnt give a damn about war crimes. But this was their childs decision to join the military. WAR isnt fair. Woman or a man.........I still pray for ALL of the soldiers......I am glad that SHE is okay......lets hope they bring all of our POW's home
THey got info that one of ours was in a hospital and went in. THey didn't know with 100% certainty who (or how many) Americans were in there. They used their information nd took the opportunity to bring one of ours home.
I never implied that she received special treatment from the Army, or at least, I didn't intend to, I am talking more about more of our reaction and the media's reaction.
This gal is badass! Awesome story. Totally reminds me of Meg Ryan's character in "Courage Under Fire". How did she get all of the broken bones? Torture?
http://slate.msn.com/id/2080889/ I think that we are celebrating because she is alive.....all we hear are how troops are getting killed and Black Hawks being shot down. It is news yes........but it is good news
Obvious answer: Because she was rescued! It's a success story and it's dramatic. If it were a man, he'd be getting just as much attention. You know there will be a made-for-tv movie about this and I hope she makes a killing.
Exactly. This is the first successful rescue of a POW since WWII. That's amazing and it'd get coverage whether the POW was a man or a woman.
That's awesome if it's confirmed by the sequence of events... I agree with the devil advocate's case...I'm just glad they rescused someone, man or woman...
