Started the day off finding out a friend of 15 years was moved to hospice care after learning there's nothing else that can be done for his cancer. It is prostate cancer and was caught early. But this was in 2013 and just wouldn't fully respond to the treatments. I haven't seen him in a year but he was looking fine then. I spoke to him a month ago and was heading into Houston to go to MD Anderson. He was in good spirits...as he had been through all of this. I hadn't spoken to him since then. It apparently was when they told him there was nothing more that could be done.

It's one of those rare situations where you say, "thank g-d he didn't have children". His wife is one of the sweetest people I've ever known and I can't imagine what she's going through right now. I don't know how long he has. I'll be in Austin on Monday and am hoping to see him just to talk about his Vikings and the Longhorns. I'd love for nothing more than to have him give me s*** about what the Vikes did to the Texans.

To the best left handed 3rd baseman that ever lived...

I'm sorry to hear about your friend and now it's important to make him comfortable and get more pain relief during this time.

Hate to hear this. I hear about and witness advances in cancer treatment almost everyday, but it always feels like 10 steps backwards when I hear about someone in your buddy's shoes. It's not over yet though.

    Thoughts and prayers, bro.

Must be a rare type of prostate cancer. Prostate cancer tends to be either easily treated if caught early, or not treated at all since it is slow moving. Did it move into his bladder or something?

    Sorry for your loss, leroy.

Cancer sucks. Though it would put me out of a job, I hope, more than anything, that one day they find a cure.
