1. Muhammad Ali 2. Julio Cesar Chavez 3. Sugar Ray Robinson 4. Roberto Duran 5. Henry Armstrong 6. Joe Louis 7. Rocky Marciano 8. Archie Moore 9. George Foreman 10. Mike Tyson Honorable Mentions Marvin Hagler Larry Holmes Joe Frazier Evander Holyfield Lennox Lewis Sugar Ray L Now this is my opinion, you are entitled to your own but we seem to have a lot of knowledgeable boxing followers on the board. Just looking for some thoughts on your top 10.
No Jack Johnson, on a Houston sports site, nonetheless? He's debatably the best boxer ever, and certainly top five.
107 wins, 86 by KO and only 6 losses. AGAIN, this is MY LIST. I just want to here your opinions on the top 10.
De la Hoya was awesome, don't get me wrong. But you can obviously tell that the last few fights he had, he did for the money. The Mayweather fight was really bad.
Hmmm ... I'll let these guys settle this one: <object width="425" height="344"><param name="movie" value="http://www.youtube.com/v/rdjblkRkoPU&hl=en&fs=1&"></param><param name="allowFullScreen" value="true"></param><param name="allowscriptaccess" value="always"></param><embed src="http://www.youtube.com/v/rdjblkRkoPU&hl=en&fs=1&" type="application/x-shockwave-flash" allowscriptaccess="always" allowfullscreen="true" width="425" height="344"></embed></object>
Archie Moore and Rocky Marciano are on the list, but no mentions of Jack Johnson, Jack Dempsey, Floyd Patterson, Tommy Hearns, and Sonny Liston.
Holyfield has to be placed above Tyson. I don't know what you do with Lewis, because the best HW boxers of his sub-era were either nuts (Bowe, Golota) or washed up. All I know about Chavez is longevity. I don't know if that's because lighter fighters can last a little longer, or because there might be too many divisions (light welterweight?) for someone to always face the best fighter. Foreman is Ali's 1a, Frazier his 1b. I don't how much Foreman's comeback reinforces his greatness or just invalidates the first post-Tyson era. I imagine Jack Johnson should be up there somewhere.
1. SRR 2. Sam Langford 3. Ali 4. Duran 5. Joe Louis 6. Willie Pep 7. Henry Amrmstong 8. Pernell Whitaker 9. Jack Johnson 10. SRL It's definitely subjective but seeing JCC, The Mongoose, Marciano (one of my favorites), Foreman , and Mike ****ing Tyson (really?) leads me to believe you don't know much about boxing
Sweat Pea taxed his overrated ass. ****, we finally got a cool SI cover for boxing. Lost to Frankie Randell twice and the Meldrick taylor fix too. he was actually losing through five in the second Taylor fight but Meldrick was shot. JCC is the most overrated fighter of all time
Damn you guys are eating me up huh? Due to my of my age, I wasn't as fortunate as some of you to see all these boxers fight, at least in their primes. However I have tried to follow and watch there tapes closely to make a call, so yes I may not know "alot", but I think I know enough. Listen, I made this list so I could hear opposing lists and discuss. So far this has been a roast on my list like a freaking McGrady thread in the damn garm.
