Is there truly a difference between 50 dollar (insert booze) vs 15 dollar? If so, in what ways? I already know my opinion but I crave all of yours.
it really depends on the brand and type of liquor, and also what you want out of the liquor. I will say this: If you ask most people what the best vodka is, they will swear up and down it's Grey Goose. But in blind taste tests, Grey Goose consistently performs poorly in comparison to other vodkas. One Vodka that does surprisingly well, is Smirnoff.
Not unlike brand name cola drinks and store brand cola. But I haven't drank alcohol in years and years, so what do I know?
There is a difference between the two but honestly I could care less as long as it gets the job done.
Well, if you were to compare Grey Goose to cheap stuff like Texas Spirit, you can tell the difference. The cheaper stuff usually taste a bit harsh and doesn't go down as smoothly, especially drinking it straight. There's no point in spending a lot of money on top-shelf if you plan to use mixers.
I agree with there being a difference in the hangover, but other than that, ***** it, drunk is drunk and I think most people that say they enjoy the taste of hard alcohol are just lying.
Hangovers. Tastes. Smoothness. Oh, the big one, COST. Stuff like that. SirCharlesFan got it. IROC it got it (but what does he know  ) Life2Def got it. rawool got it CoolGuy got it Ziggy got it TheReason doesn't get it tulexan got it
brian cook costs more than luis scola and plays just as well......uh wait, no but anyways, i'm not much of a hard liquor drinker......just an occasional vodka or gin... but for wines, yeah there's generally a correlation b/t price and quality... really the only 2 constants i know of where the price/quality ratio nearly always holds: neckties and loudspeakers
As others have noted: If you're mixing, it makes no difference (other than hangover). If you're sipping, it makes a HUGE difference.
OP, try these and compare: Sunny Brook whiskey vs Crown Royal Taaka vodka vs Grey Goose Pancho Villa tequila vs Patron Taaka gin vs Bombay Saphire
It depends on what you're mixing it with. I'll drink any cheep vodka when I have a vodka tonic because the tonic and lime kill the vodka taste anyway. Now if I'm making a martini I'll only get the good stuff. Now with Scotch you only drink the best when you're drinking it by itself. Big difference there.
I disagree about the mixed drink thing. Although it has some merit in that the *more* sugar/flavors you add, the easier it is to hide the butt taste of a rot-gut alcohol. But if it is a tonic, or a martini, or something simple like that, I can still taste a terrible vodka/gin. The only way I can't taste the alcohol is if it is in a margarita (frozen especially, a properly made margarita on the rocks shouldn't be THAT sugary) or a daquiri... neither of which would I bet caught dead drinking unless I was on an island somewhere anyway. My favorite drink is tequila and lime with a slight touch of ginger ale. A bad tequila will rape your brain, a good tequila will send you to cloud 9. Totally worth it.
I'd have to say the one liquor where I've always noticed it is Tequila. I don't mind a shot of good tequila. Plastic bottle tequila is only good for mixing margaritas for people you don't like.
Every blind taste test I could find online says that you guys wouldn't be able to tell the difference. Here is a 20/20 test http://abcnews.go.com/2020/story?id=3201973&page=1
Grey Goose is all marketing...I actually prefer Kettle One, but VOx and Belvedere are the best...It has to do with how many times they distill or something, which only matters if you want/don't want a headache...Plus vodka soda w/ lime, my staple, is one of, if not the lowest mixed drink out there...
