My struggle with this class is I feel pretty confident in who I think the top few QBs profile to as pros and it really makes me step back. Being a pro QB is hard, don’t get me wrong, but I’m not convinced any of these guys is at least Watson-level or better. This is who I think these guys will resemble in a few years: Bryce Young = Tua Tagovailoa - talented when on the field, but size will likely lead to injury and can put his team into the playoffs but maybe starting its backup or 3rd stringer due to injury. Might have shortened career due to size/injury. CJ Stroud = Jared Goff - Talented enough to be a solid pro and with the right guidance can be a good middle to borderline top 10 guy at times, but defense will win him a title if he ever wins one (like Rams/Goff almost did) Will Levis = lesser Matt Stafford - All the physical traits of Stafford but way less of the outcomes. TD/Int ratio is really not good so seems to play like he thinks he’s Favre/Stafford but clearly isn’t in decision making Anthony Richardson = lesser Cam Newton - Similar builds and games and if he actually reaches his potential I think it’s who he would resemble as a pro. He needed more college experience though, so it’ll either take an additional year or two if he ever gets there or might be why he never does. Tanner McKee = Davis Mills - nuff said. We know this one pretty well Pro comparisons are hard because everyone’s always looking for the next Mahomes/Burrow/Allen/Herbert, but those guys are all unique and only Burrow went 1.1, so the others also had a lot of questions that had them slide. If I’m right on my comparisons, and not completely diminishing how hard it it to be a good NFL QB, would you use the 1.2 on Tua, Goff, or meh Stafford? I wouldn’t. That’s the problem I foresee with us forcing it because, yes, we do need a QB, but 1.12 as a QB or a trade for a backup with at least ceiling possibility of happening feels like he’s out there.
The poster hlmbasketball Dude can’t help himself. Any black QB is the next MVP, any white QB that has a decent scouting report he hates.
Lol and I don’t think he’s got enough upside. He moves ok for a big guy, has a good arm. But same reason I don’t want Stroud, no top tier upside
Pretty much agree. I do think Levis is more athletic than Stafford, but comp is there. The others are pretty spot on I think
From what I'm led to believe, it allegedly has better possibilities. I personally haven't scouted any of them yet but a friend of mine who has suggests it will be a better class. We hear that almost every year, but then when it rolls around, it doesn't look quite as rosy. One prime example is Spencer Rattler. Where is he?
From what I read, the Drake May (UNC) comp is Justin Herbert.and Caleb Williams comp is Mahomes. Those two QBs would probably be drafted ahead of any of the current 2023 QBs if they could enter this year’s draft.
LOL. If Maye is a top 5 QB. Texans' probably won't be in a position to draft him (if Demeco improves this team) and I don't want to waste picks moving up . Take the QB now. Bird in the hand...
For a true franchise QB I'm willing to give up what it takes to draft that guy. What do you think the Texans record will be next year?
And why do u think he is a "true" franchise guy? He is not Caleb Williams. His numbers are not as good as Young or Stroud and he played against lesser competition. Matter of fact, he lost his last 4 games of 2022 and 3 of those games were BAD performances. Worse, his performance against a 5-7 Georgia Tech was AWFUL.
He's played well despite not having much talent around him. He's got more talent than any QB in this draft. Right now I've got 1. Williams 2. Maye 3. Nix
