I was thinking about this the other day. I'm actually somewhat of a huge movie buff, so I have seen all but a couple of the major releases this year. So I'll come up with a list of 10 to see what you think. It's so subjective though. Fill me in if I missed a good movie and I'll go watch on DVD.

    1. Once Upon a Time in Mexico (I just really liked the artistic style of this one, I truly loved this movie, though others seems so so on it probably one of my favorite moves ever).

    2. Master and Commander. The trailers did not do it justice, this movie had really really great character development and the drama was riveting.

    3. The Last Samurai. Very scenic, and they made a very unplausible plot line work. Very classy movie, despite an ending that takes momentum away.

    4. The Return of the King. Epic. Maybe I'm not ranking this higher because my expectations were so high? But it delivers.

    5. Finding Nemo. Best animated movie since Shrek, I think, the humor was just very intelligent.

    6. Kill Bill. I guess I'm a Tarintino fan, and this movie is the pinnicle of good action. I was so impressed that they got it to work without really having a plot. Very funny as well. Kill Bill 2 is my most anticipated movie of next year. Comes out I guess on the same day as 50 First Dates which should be funny as well.

    7. Love Actually. Probably one of the best date movies this year. Bunch of people on the board have girl issues? Just bring her to go see this movie.

    8. Charlie's Angles -- Full Throttle. Just a great movie that doesn't take itself too seriously. The scene where demi more and cameron diaz do this kung fu sequence in the air and then land in s stance was plain awesome, I was like whoa I wanna see that again.

big drop off here... as I there were only 8 movies I really really liked this year.

    9. Cradle 2 the Grave. I for some reason really liked this, DMX and Jet Li? Worked surprisingly well.

    10. Bruce Almighty. Some good laughs.

    Thoughts?

I would add Mystic River and Lost in Translation to your list!

Lost in Translation is some of the best work Bill Murray has done in years!

And Sean Penn is amazing in Mystic River!

Also, although I haven't seen it yet, I hear that Charlize Theron, in "Monster", is supposed to be really creepy!

Apparently she gained something like 30 pounds to play a mass murderer. I saw a picture of her and you can't even recognize her.

I've seen both. Lost in Translation was hyped a lot over here, and while it was good in that it really captures human failings and it dealt with the relationship between Bill Murray and the girl pretty admirably, I just didn't get a sense of resolution at the end, not that there needs to be one, but I would have preferred one. I've already forgotten the name of that girl, both in the movie and in real life... I remember it was good at the time, but not that memorable. Now Mystic River maybe really should have been up there, but it was so dark! I was like whoa I just paid 10 bucks for a movie and it was good but what about all this cognitive dissonance?

Charlies Angels 2 - Full Throttle was the biggest pile of crap I have seen in years....unlike you, I was like whoa I DONT want to see that again. My wife apologized halfway through the movie.

I'd put it on Top Worst Movies this year.

    Movies not on your list:

You should go rent Pirates of the Carribean. Easily Top 10 this year. Depp is brilliant. 2nd best movie of the summer (Nemo was #1 movie this summer)

#3 best movie of the summer:X2. Sequels can be better than the originals.

School of Rock was great also. Really funny.

On the artsy side, I liked Lost In Translation, In America, and Bend It Like Beckham. Not top 10 flicks but maybe you havent seen them, they are good.

OH MY GOD! Change her back!! Change her back! Seriously Charlize Theron is one of the hottest people ever!! She was SO HOT in the Cider House Rules. Better start making movies a buch before she gets old and loses it.

Haha! You're wife is funny. Okay, yeah, a lot of people hated it, people are pretty divided on this movie. But it's a movie that's fivolous and unabashedly so, I like that.

I saw Pirates, and to make sure I was doing it justice I watched it on DVD when it came out. I guess they stayed true to the ride and that's cool... but there's just not enough premise to make a movie about it. Johnny Depp is awesome, part of the reason I liked once upon a time. But for some reason I just didn't really like the movie. The action was kind of fake and the humor sometimes fell flat with me.

X2 was good, I liked it. But I guess I really liked the comics when I was little and it doesn't stay true to the comics. I mean Pyro? Why make up characters? And Rogue is a sultry vixen in the comic, not a teenager. And where is GAMBIT! They should get Johnny Depp to do that one.

I have not seen In America! Is that really good? I liked the trailer. It's about the family of immigrants right?

I'm sorry, but anyone that puts Charlie's Angels 2 on thier list of "Top Movies of the Year" loses all creditibility with me.

realize that other people might have different tastes than you.

47 posts do not give you a right to assign creditibility to anyone without backing it up.

Whats sad is that I was into the comics when I was a kid, and there was no Gambit. There was Wolverine, Jean Grey, Cyclops, Kitty Pryde, Storm, Nightcrawler, and Collosus. Then Rogue showed up (but thats about the same time I discovered I'd rather spend money on girls instead of comix...damn puberty). Yeah Rogue should have been a sultry cajun, like some of those gals at LSU....but the fact that they made Wolverine a KILLER made the movie better than the first.

In America is about Irish immigrants, good flick. Oh, and Dirty Prety Things is good too, esp if you like that French gal from "Amelie" (which is awesome, too)

You could of dropped this off byadding Pirates of the Caribbean.

It had some funny parts, but I hate when a comedy tries to make a statement.

I think that's technically considered last year. I think Caine was nominated for an Academy Award.

I'll have to wait until I see all the Xmas movies before making my list, but Love Actually is at the top of the list.

wow... okay so I collected comics like in junior high, which was like maybe 1990? and the X-Men then had gambit, beast, and psyloke (sp?) who was totally hot. I don't know kitty pryde, did she get killed off because of the ridiculous name?

right I've seen the trailer for in america, except it's not a wide release right? i didn't see it at the theater when i went to LOTR yesterday.

artistic movies eh? how about "barbarian invasions" i'm really looking forward to that.

Favorite 10 movies I have seen this year

    1. Return of the King - Absolutely awesome.
    2. Pirates of the Carribean - Fun movie. The type of movie you could watch several times and not get sick of it.
    3. X-Men 2 - Much better than the first and definitely had me wanting more. This is a franchise that I could see going a long long time.
    4. Kill Bill - I love Tarantino and this was great. Much better than I thought it would be. I cant wait until February.
    5. Confidence - I didnt see this until it came on DVD. It may have been in 2002 but I really liked it. Really cool story.
    6. Runaway Jury - My favorite Grisham book. There was a lot missing but still very well done.
    7. Levity - It was kind of slow but the story was unbelievable. BBT was great as usual. He is definitely one of favs.
    8. Matrix Reloaded - I liked this a lot and I couldnt wait until Revolutions. What a disaster that piece of crap was.
    9. The Rundown - I am going to get slaughtered for this one but I thought it was cool. I am a big fan of The Rock. When you throw in Stifler and more cowbell, I knew I was gonna have to see this.
    10. T3 - A new twist on the Terminator series and the more I watch it the more I like it.

Things I Definitely Want To See:
    21 Grams
    Big Fish
    Cold Mountain
    Last Samurai*
    Master and Commander*
    Monster
*These I will definitely see at the movies

After looking over my list I look like an action movie idiot. I really do like ather genres but cannot think of many I have seen that are better.
