As the title states your favorite 5 basic cable channels. That means no HBO/Showtime etc since those cost extra

    in no particular order

    Discovery
    History Channel
    Food Network
    CNN
    Cartoon Network

I left off NBATV since a lot of places do not have that as a basic cable channel otherwise I would replace Cartoon Network with NBATV

Replace CNN with ESPN and that's my list. I get most of my news from CNN.com though.

Without The Daily Show and The Colbert Report my head would explode from all the pent up absurdity.

So when the hell are they going to be HD?

TCM - great movies, no commercials and robert osborne with the trivia before and after the movie - awesome.

    other staples are

    BBC America
Comedy Central when they actually show standups
    ESPN
Showtime - original series are good

HBO is probably good too, but i don't get that.

If HBO is considered basic cable, add that to my list. Gotta love Curb, Entourage, Band of Brothers, John Adams, etc.
