http://www.thedreamshake.com/2009/3/3/777621/top-10-worst-rockets-first Good read for the upcoming draft.
Michael Dickerson was a first round pick. Horrible list. Most of the players were at least journeyman.
I don't think the writer is saying Dickerson wasn't a 1st round pick. He's just saying Cat was a 2nd round pick. I'd say the biggest blunder was skipping out on hometown boy Rashard Lewis for Bryce freaking Drew.
Seeing Monta Ellis as a person we could have drafted over Luther Head makes me want to ralph on the floor.
Not a good list IMO. How about Steve Harris or Dave Jamerson? Eddie Griffin has got to be the all time worst pick though. I was excited about it but the bang to hype ratio was way out of whack.
I remember being highly pissed when we took Drew and Turkcan in 98. Nachbar was another one that upset me at the time too.
Well couple things here...I'm sure every team can come up with a crap load of blown picks so nothing truly crappy separates us from every other team. The only one that truly stings was Drew over Lewis but none of the rest are franchise altering. The Eddie Griffin deal turned out crappy but at the time, NO ONE should have said a negative word about it. Griffin was a top talent but some deals work out and others don't. Jefferson was a nice player and would have helped but we've seen what happened to Richard the minute Kidd left the Nets Turkcan was a bad pick but plenty of Euro bust and it was the 18th pick so not even a lotto choice.
Every team has draft mistakes when you look over 20 years. I don't think the Rockets are worse in this respect than anyone else.
This just shows me that CD didn't know what the hell he was doing. The Luther Head pick really hurt the T Mac and Yao era. Image if we had Lee team up with Yao. We would of gotten past the Jazz for sure and who know what would of happen.
Bad list, I normally like The dreamshake, but this is just bad. You can make such a list for every franchise. There are good players drafted later than the players a team draft. Most of those players were late first round picks, and those are always a gamble. And why use the whole griffin draft for 4 slots in this top 10. That doesn't make any sense, either use the 3 we actually drafted, or use the player we had after the draft (and than it was actually one of the worst trades in Rockets history not draft picks).
Those picks are making me depressed. The people we could of got like: monta ellis zach randolph stepehen jackson manu ginobli list goes on ;(
The 2001 was the worst plunder of all time in Rockets history IMO. We could of had Jefferson, Zbo and Dalembert. Thats a solid healthy TRIO. But we ended up with just Eddie Griiffin (God rest his soul) instead. But then we would have never experienced the YAO and TMAC era either.
There was a big kid named Lee Johnson, I think, that the Rockets drafted and intentionally never signed him. In the 70's. He was from East Texas Statel. He was a 6' 11" stringbean. The Rockets were cash-strapped and wanted to draft a guy that they could move to sign in a couple of years. This was before the influx of Europeans drafted for the future. Drafted in 1979: http://www.nbadraft.net/nba_draft_history/1979.html
you went from being depressed to being suicidal in 2 sentences.... Motivational speaking isnt one of your strongest attributes..lol
