In light of the Jamal Lewis fiassco, and eveything that is wrong with sports and the modern day althlete, I thought it might be intresting and enlightening to see who ya'll thought had the most untarnished career's while playing. You can call this the Heros against the Headcases. Top-10 heros 1. Wayne Gretzski 2. Joe Montana 3. Hakeem "The Dream" (this guy wouldn't hurt a fly in Affica) 4. Tiger Woods (although I heard he can be a cheap ass)) 5. Payton Manning 6 John Stockton (has he ever been arrested?) 7. Yao Ming (will he ever leave the nest?) 8. Nolan Ryan (the Ryan Express rides through Houston once again) 9. Walter Payton (Sweetness says it all) R.I.P. 10. Derrick Thomas (a hero in every sense of the word) R.I.P. I'll have my top-10 list of headcases directly.
He's also done some real estate deals that have screwed Houstonians into dealing with eyesores in prominent locations just so he can make a buck.
I think Hakeem should definitely be ON the list. He turned down a big money shoe deal on principle, asked his teammates to come out and accept the MVP award with him(which had never been done before). He actually tried to tutor Shawn Bradly and other opposing centers. He proposed a summer camp for centers where the 10 best would all come there and teach each other 2 of their moves. Hakeem said you do give up 2 moves but you gain 18 new ones. Obviously that didn't work out, but he did have the idea. He stood by his ideals including not drinking water during day games in the month of Ramadan. Early in his career he did get in fights, and I think that only adds to the turn around story, and shows that he deserves a place on this list.
doesn't payton manning have some nasty allegations surrounding him from his time at the university of tennessee... ? or have those been proven wrong ?
I don't remember hearing anything negative about Manning, but I could be wrong. I just picked the first 10 golden boys to pop in my head.
Derek Thomas. Didn't we learn after his death that he had 8 or 9 children by many different women, and wasn't even paying them child support? some stand up guy
That was the infamous brownstar incident, where he rubbed his rump on some female trainer. GV76, you remember that, right?
I'm not a huge fan, but how can you leave off David Robinson. The man is a walking charity for San Antonio.
The Admiral, much as we hate him, should be there. He was class all the way. Same goes for Joe Dumars, KJ, and the Glide. And, not to be a d*ck, and certainly not to undermine the right choice for top spot, but it's Gretzky. Montana, yeah. Jerry Rice has also had a long and distinguished career absent any controversy, as did Barry Sanders, Ronnie Lott, and others. Kurt Warner is said to be an incredibly nice guy. In baseball, class acts that come to mind are Paul Molitor, Cal Ripken Jr., Maddux and Glavine, Carlos Delgado, Frank Thomas, and others.
The Admiral, Cal Ripken, Craig Biggio, and Jerry Rice all deserve do be on the list of untarnished. No doubt. And now without further a do do, here is my 10 ten all- time tranished truds. 1. Mike Tyson 2. O.J. 3. The reciever from Jacksonville (I think his intials are R.C.) 4. Tonya Harding (welcome to the big leagues) 5. Pete Rose 6. Larence Taylor 7. John Rocker 8. Dennis Rodman 9. Jamal Lewis (congradulations) 10. Eddie Griffin and the list goes on...
