http://www.askmen.com/top_10/sports/top-10-soon-to-be-overpaid-athletes_1p.html 5 Trevor Ariza The Rockets developed a giant hole at center, due to Yao Ming’s demise. So why did the team use Ming’s injury exemption to invest $33.5 million over five years on a small forward? Trevor Ariza played spectacularly for the Lakers for stretches of the playoffs. But it’s a stretch to expect him to become a go-to offensive weapon in Houston after playing off of Kobe Bryant in Los Angeles. Sure, he knocked down big three-pointers during the playoffs -- but Ariza shot just 31.9% from beyond the arc during the regular season. He made some timely steals, but he is hardly a lockdown defender.
It's too early for the guy to include Ariza. We haven't seen him play in the Adelman system, or in any system where he was a primary scorer for the team. It's possible that he won't develop offensively, but let's at least give him a shot before writing him off. Without watching him play, and giving him time to develop, it's too bold to say that he is overpriced and locked in for too long.
Since when did askmen.com(most likely from california) do sports? They prob. think T-mac played the whole season last year too. Who gives a ish about an obscure website and it's hack writers.
What a horrible inclusion on the list. I could maybe understand putting Ariza if the list was just basketball players. But out of all professional athletes? Ariza is more deserving of the deal than Ron Artest, who got an almost identical deal this summer.
Ron signed a 5 year $33 million deal. http://sports.espn.go.com/nba/news/story?id=4314742 They both signed for the full MLE. Same contract.
Length (in most cases) is better than short-term deals. Sure, Artest got more, but Ariza is getting a constant flow of it for 5 years.
I am saying I would have much rather given ariza 3 18mil. This could turn out good or into stromile swift. We will have to wait to find out.
This is all jibberish, I think that Ariza and Brooks will blossom on offense this year since there are no go to options on offense like Artest, Yao or TMac and people will start talking how Rockets did fine with Ariza.
Stromile was never a smart basketball player. Ariza has a much higher basketball IQ. Not sure how Ariza could become anything close to Stromile.
That's laughable. In 7 years Ariza has started more than 12 games once, which was last year when he started 20 and has averaged (over a season) more than 6.5ppg only twice in his career (both 8.9ppg). He also shoots sub 30% from 3 point range for his career. More deserving my ass. Real stretch there ReD_1. Ariza may blosson, but all that proves is that a very average player can excel on a team with no options. It's a mirage....not real. Ariza is a role player who got a lengthly contract based on how he played in the playoffs.
