Who do you think are the top 10 players in the NBA? This is based on skill only- so its basically the top 10 skilled players in the league. Here's my 10, in no particular order:

    Tracy McGrady
    Kobe Bryant
    Shaquille O'Neal
    Paul Pierce
    Allen Iverson
    Kevin Garnett
    Jason Kidd
    Rasheed Wallace
    Steve Francis
    Dirk Nowitzki

I'm not sure if a thread like this has already been done; I apologize if it has.

Not sure if Shaq should be there... Shaq is prob the most skilled center, but not top 10 in the NBA...

Well, subtract Shaq and add Tim Duncan, and you got yourself a list.

I agree to an extent that Shaq is not that skilled, but for his position and for his size and weight, he has to be considered as one of the top 10 players pound for pound.

What's Bibby doing there? I could think of many players more skilled. Gary Payton comes to mind, especially sice he plays the same position.

    But that's just my opinion.

Heh...yeah, Bibby's been getting a lot of love from that playoff run. He surprised me, but I don't think he one of the best in the NBA. If he goes off starting the season and continues, he would then earn that respect, imo.

BTW, I think azn is from California so he probably was slightly biased. Hey, so am I. Collier is the best center in the league, after Ming and Cato. :D

shooter, I'd replace Shaq and Jason Kidd with Chris Webber and Tim Duncan in terms of skill level. Maybe, Payton over Francis in this junction of their respective careers as well.

I agree that TD needs to be on the list, but after seeing how Mike Bibby outplayed C-Webb during last year's Conference Finals, Webber is hardly a top 10 player. He's a good player who can score in the first three quarters, but come the 4th quarter, he disappears.

I thought your were talking skill level ...if so, Webber belongs on the list. Webber may be the most skilled big man in the league (now that doesn't necessarily mean best). He's probably the best passing power forward in the game. Add to that his inside/outside scoring ability, rebounding presence, along with his superior ball handling for a post player, and you have one of the most skilled players in the game. His tendency to disappear in the clutch shouldn't be a factor went gauging skill level.

I see no Vince Carter on any of those lists. I know he had a bad year with injuries and some may call him soft but there's no denying he's got skills and I think he will come back strong this season.

What skills? Average handles. No defense. Decent jumper... Skills is different than athleticism.

    Agreed.

Hate Webber all you want, but he is as SKILLED as any PF in the NBA. If you consider Dirk and KG to be SFs, which they are, then Webber is easily the most skilled PF. He handles the ball like a SG, shoots like a SF, and passes like a PG. If he played with more aggression, then he would be among the top 5 players in the NBA without a doubt.

Are we talking skill alone or sill combined with athletic ability? If it's skill alone, Steve should be taken off the list along with a few others and lesser but better skilled players such as Nick Van Exel or Peja should be added.

Can it be assumed that you are considering Duncan a center then?

Skillwise, Duncan and Webber are very comparable. Duncan's far and away the better post player and defender, but Webber's passing ability, outside shot, and ball handling are quite superior to Duncan's. Duncan's the better player, no doubt, but it can be debated as to who's the more skilled player. Duncan's skills are more concentrated, where as Webber has more of an array of skills.

Alright Shooter lets get some things straight.

Pound for pound is a term that favors lighter guys. Such as Roy Jones is the best pound for pound boxer indicating that if he weighed as much a Lennox Lewis he could beat him but since he is much lighter he cannot.

Next, SHAQ IS IN NO WAY A SKILL PLAYER!!!!! Good Mutherfracken Great Holy Chicken Livers!!! What are you talking about. They don't call him diesel for nothing. And yes, shooting is considered an important NBA skill.

Chris Webber is a tool. But he has way more skill than Shaq. Too bad about lacking that extra four inches and 120 pounds or so.
