They discussed this briefly on CP's show on 790 last week. Can you rank the top 10 Rocket Guards of all time?

These are probably the best 3 on most people's lists

    1) Calvin
    2) Clyde
    3) Francis

After that it gets a little difficult, but here's my go

    4) Robert Reid
    5) Kenny
    6) Vernon
    7) Cuttino
    8) Sam
    9) Mitch Wiggins
    10) John Lucas

Sam was the one I had the most problems with. Definitely one of my faves, but not enough time as a starter so didn't feel like I could put him in the top 5. (did he ever regularly start? can't remember) Also, wasn't sure if Lucas should be on here. Probably the best PG we had, but he kept waking up in ditches on the southside of downtown.

John Lucas should be much, much higher on your list, if you just base it on their best years with the Rox.

No way Kenny Smith is ahead of Maxwell. Kenny only played a good game once every 5 games...Mad Max left a bad taste in everyone's mouth, but was the man!

Well I'm not gonna comment on you leaving off everyone and their mom (like Calvin)...but Cassell shouldn't be very high on the list. He helped us a lot in our run, which gets him into the top 10...but he wasn't here very long at all.

Newlin and Dunleavy were a bit ahead of my time, but I'll gladly swap out Mitch Wiggins for one of those guys

I don't remember Sleepy being a great scorer with the Rockets. I think his best years with us was when he was coming off the bench, behind Kenny and Vernon.

T-Mac - plays small forward and has only been a rocket for 4 months anyway, so I don't think we can include him

Calvin - High level of play for many years as a Rocket
Clyde - While here for only a short period of time,we won a title, and he is one of the top 5 2's of all time.
Lucas - great talent, produced, but when we really needed him he wasn't there.d
Francis - I hesitate putting him this high, but he has mad talent..just doesn't get it though.
Newlin - nice long career, underrated IMO..great bank shot..
Mad Max- Volatile, not here a long time, but was a maniac on and off the court...GREAT defensive player!..and we won a title w/him
    Cassell - Titles,clutch player,but didn't have a long career as a Rocket.

Hey, where is Scotty Brooks on your list?? Anyway. other than placing Lucas a bit higher, the list looks about right to me.

I can't remeber, was Lewis Lloyd a guard or a forward? He was really great for a couple years then the S*** hit the fan.

What no Alan Leavell? Come on a list of best Rocket guards w/o one of the purest form free-throwers ever?

Nicely done. We might could argue about Robert Horry, Mario Ellie, John Lucas and a few others, but I like the list.

Sleepy Floyd kind of sucked while he was here - he was definitely not the borderline 20-10 guy we traded for. His second season in H-town was decent statistically (was looking at it today) but otherwise he was kind of sh-t. I wouldn't put him on any kind of "all rockets" team.

He deserves mention in the "disappointing" thread.

no way he was the best but he should have been if not for the drugs and the hole he put the Rockets in...not once but twice.
