Here is a list of MTV's top 10 MC's of all-time: Jay-Z 2Pac The Notorious B.I.G. Rakim Nas KRS-One Big Daddy Kane Ice Cube Eminem LL Cool J Here is a list of the top 10 rap albums of all time, according to MTV: Eric B. & Rakim - "Paid in Full" Nas - "Illmatic" Dr. Dre - "The Chronic" The Notorious B.I.G. - "Ready to Die" Run-DMC - "Raising Hell" Jay-Z - "Reasonable Doubt" N.W.A - "*****z4life" Ice Cube - "Death Certificate" 2Pac - "The Don Killuminati: The 7 Day Theory" Public Enemy - "It Takes a Nation of Millions to Hold Us Back" Debate and discuss. I will too.
Rakim and KRS-One should be higher on the first list. I agree with "Paid In Full", But PE should have done better than 10. What did MTV base this on, airplay?
What do Madonna, Depeche Mode and Milli Vanilli all have in common? They all stole Eric B. and Rakim's beat.
The exclusion of De La Soul's 3 Feet High and Rising or A Tribe Called Quest's The Low End Theory means the list is...craptastic.
Im not going to argue Biggie vs Tupac, that boils down to personal taste. But there is absolutely no way Jay Z should be over Biggie. Biggie laid down the blueprint for him.
Garbage. 2pac's all eyez on me album is #1 all time and snoop's doggystyle should be in there somewhere. IMO
Heh, I was about to post the exact same thing. Probably wouldn't have used "craptastic" though, "f'ing joke" is more my style.
I personally think "Me Against the World" was Pac's best work. As far as "Doggystyle" I don't have a problem not seeing it on the list, it was a good album and Snoop has put forst mediocre to crap albums since but The Chronic made the list which pretty much was the blueprint of Snoop's album.
I agree on both points even the point about the chronic being the blueprint for doggystyle. its just an extension of that album. I agree that either de la soul or tribe should have one album on the list for bringing in a whole new genre of rap. you cold replace reasonable doubts with one of de la soul's or tribe's albums, because reasonable doubts is sort of an extension of ready to die just different emcees. I have no problem with Jay being one with skills, catalogue, and appeal all going into the ranking I would have a hard time naming a better emcee.
Two rappers whose popularity I don't understand : Notorious and Jay-Z. I can take people saying they like them or even that they're good, but for them to make a list of top 10 MC's where at least one of them is above 2Pac and both are above Eminem, Rakim, etc. is nuts.
I'm just suprised that MTV listed a top ten list of anything that has stuff more than a couple of years old. When I saw "MTV" in the thread title, I was expecting to see Kanye West, Paul Wall, and Chamillionaire...
