I thought this would be fun and a nice break from the Bosh threads. Rank the top ten roster moves by the Rockets in the team's history. This can be Draft Picks Trades Free Agent Signings I'm still unsure of my top 10, I'll post them when I finish my list.
Yeah, I'm the same way. That I know is first, I also have: drafting Yao Drexler trade Steve Francis trade There are others that I like just because they were so hard to pull off, but that didn't amount to anything.
Perhaps moving from San Diego to Houston should be #1 since without it, we would tend not to care about anything else.
Hmmm. perhaps, if we stayed in San Diego we'd probably have less money and be one of those continuous bottom feeders who's trading away their good players because they csn't afford them for young pieces then when the pieces get expensive trading them in a vicious cycle(like the Grizzlies). So coming to Houston is pretty important. But I don't know if it's a roster move.
I don't care if it's not really a roster move, but this belongs somewhere on that list: Hiring Daryl Morey
anything that led to a championship should come first. 1. hakeem 2. drexler 3. kenny smith 4. thorpe 6. horry 7. cassell then the stuff that should've panned out: 8. tmac 9. murphy 10. francis -------------------- just for fun, i'd like to throw in some of the worst moves i can remember: bad trades 1. getting nothing for pippen 2. giving up too much for an aging barkley 3. 3 first rounders for eddie griffin over paying 4. matt maloney 5. mo taylor 6. moovie norris 7. kelvin cato busts 8. collier 9. turkan 10. drew
I never thought about it that way. Alright, my list is taking shape 1)Moving from San Diego to Houston 2)Drafting Hakeem 3)Trading fro Drexler
I'd also put the Ron Artest on the list. Hindsight is 20/20, but you can't ignore the fervor it put us fans in when we picked up Artest. It really seemed like we had are big 3. Tracy claimed to be healthy, Yao claimed to be the healthiest he had been in years, and Artest was bringing a toughness those two desperately needed. Things looked really bright. Then MeMac showed his true colors, and Yao went down with his yearly injury in a series in which we had the potential to beat the NBA Champions. Still, it was a hell of a trade.
Trading for T-mac. He may have had a disappointing run here, but at the time of the deal and the first couple of years that followed it, it seemed like a great move. I was so excited when the trade went down, my buddy Adam and I went to the presser at Compaq and watched mac get introduced to Houston. The championships he promised never materialized, but at the time it was a great deal. At least we didn't have to look at Kelvin Cato's ugly a** anymore.
1) Dream - enough said? 2) Clyde - Sad to see OT go but we weren't going to repeat without Clyde. 3) Horry - He was booed when he was selected but set the stage for back to back title. 4) Cassell - A lot like Brooks, late rd pick that turned out to be gold. 5) Sampson - No titles but if he hadn't gotten hurt...OH MY 6) OT - Setup the enforcer for Dream 7) Barkley - Broke up the core but gave us one last run at a title. 8) Yao - Took a gamble he would be the next great center, he was until the dam foot. 9) TMAC - I know I know but it was a HUGE trade that made us relevant again. 10) Kevin Martin - Sets up the most important offseason in recent franchise history.
