When does everyone ususally start this fantasy football leagues? I typcially play in a random league or two on yahoo/espn, then a couple with friends. I like to do the random leagues first, to see how/where players/teams are drafting.

Drafting, other than winning, is my favorite part of fantasy sports. Is it too early to start doing random leagues? If it's not for money, I guess it doesn't matter. But, if it were for money, I guess you take risk with the unknown.

If it's for money I like to wait until the week 3 preseason games are over. But even if it's not for money I would wait at least 1 month before I start to draft. The reason is that any league that drafts now is going to have a bunch of guys that are not serious about the league and won't check it once season starts. If you are really wanting to draft there are a bunch of mock draft sites out there even on yahoo. I think I've done a mock draft at least 5 times already.

I took your advise and did some mock drafts... well, currently doing 1.

The RB this year are just awful past 5. And after CJ burned me last year, I have a hard time taking him anyway. I was going to try and go heavy this year in RB early, but after this draft, it doesn't look like I'll take more than 1 rb in the first few rounds.

drafts shouldnt start till than august, to see how players are doing in training camps and first games of preseason (especially those who have injuries or are holding out).

I know people that joins a league, just to draft and then they doesnt check the league once the season starts.

and yes if you want to practice your drafting skills and to see where the players are getting picked, just do mock drafts, I have done some mock drafts in yahoo.
