Ok, call me weird, but I'm a fan of Tonya Harding. Don't ask me why, cuz I can't explain it. But I like her attitude and her competitiveness. (I can see my wife now...."Geez, here we go again", she says...) Maybe I'm just a sucker for tough blondes....like my wife. Harding plans ring debut Tonya Harding is coming! The same Tonya Harding who shamed herself and the ice-skating world by taking part in the knee-whacking incident involving Nancy Kerrigan prior to the 1994 Winter Olympics. The same Tonya Harding who shamed herself by attacking a former boyfriend. At a news conference in Tunica, Miss., last week, Harding said she will fight on the undercard when Mike Tyson takes on Clifford "The Black Rhino" Etienne on Feb. 22. An opponent has not been named. "We couldn't put out the word we were looking for an opponent for Tonya, or else it would have ruined (Harding's debut announcement)," fight promoter Brian Young said. Harding hadn't been in the news since August, when she spent eight days in the Clark County jail for violating probation with a drunken driving arrest. She was already on probation because an ex-boyfriend had accused her of assaulting him with a hubcap. In April, Harding was arrested when police in the state of Washington measured her blood-alcohol level at twice the legal limit after she ran her vehicle into a ditch. She was stripped of her U.S. national figure skating title and banned from competitive skating for life for her role in the January 1994 incident involving Kerrigan. Now, she's ready to wipe the slate clean and begin things anew as a pro boxer. "It is my goal to be a future undisputed bantamweight champion," Harding said in her Tunica announcement. "My proven athletic ability and competitive nature will help this dream become a reality." The urge to box first struck Harding last spring. She was part of the Fox network's disgusting celebrity boxing show in March, taking on former Bill Clinton girlfriend Paula Jones and giving her celebrated nose and face quite a pummeling.
