I don't really care about the collapse as much as I do about how we got to that point. I've never seen us play that well on the offensive side ever. Even though Yao was off, our team played great, we were running, we were gunning, and our passing was impecable. The Spurs are the best team in the league by far, and we took it to them, we had them on their heels, and we showed we could hang with the best. All we have to get now is that experience, and then we won't blow these types of games anymore, but we have time, because we won't be playing the Spurs every night.

I have no doubts that this team can reach the WCF anymore.

There were Rockets showing tonight, the first 2 and half qtr rockets were contender, the last 1 and half qtr rockets were lottery bound. Which one you are talking about?

Hang with them? They outscored us like 40-10 in the last 17 mintues.....I like the loss on a season long ideal, but I feel Shiitteeyy right now

I think we did prove that we're contenders, legitimate ones at that, but we also showed that we've got to get that killer instinct that we don't seem to have. Otherwise, another first round exit, here we come.

it wasn't because we couldn't hang with them, now it would be a totally different story if they just blew us out at the beginning and we came back in garbage time to make it close, then I would've felt like we had a lot of work to do. Tonight, the Rockets were able to be better than the Spurs, and vice-versa. Tonight was a learning experience, I am confident we will rebound.

I think tonight proves that rockets is still not contenders. To let a 19 pts lead so much easily go away is never what contenders do.

How did this game prove we're contenders? Contenders put two great halves together. Other than the Dallas game, we haven't done that. And Dallas has played terrible to start the season, so that game doesn't prove much either.

We need to improve against pressure defense. That's been a problem with our team all year, and that's directly related to our guard play (read: Rafer Alston and Luther Head).

Rafer was tired and Udrih hit 2 3p shots in a row at that time. That's the turning point of this game.

Tonight we proved we are pretenders.

    Contenders never give up.
Contenders keep their composure - they never show frustration.
Contenders stop the bleeding and find a way to break runs.

Thus far - we built up a big lead on a Contender. They got back up and threw some vicious punches, and we fell down, and didn't move.

    We're pretenders today.

But it's only game 8. We can still figure out how to get back up. We have 74 games to do that plus the playoffs.

In my eyes, this team lacks mettle. Swagger. But those are things a team can obtain. Let's see how they respond.

Do we roll over Thursday in Chicago - or do we learn our lesson next time we're up by 17 and a team hits a few threes?

I hope to god that it will be a positibe learning experience and not thoughts of being afraid to lose creeping up in the Rockets' minds

I guess you should say we WILL be contenders. Bad time management in the last 3 minutes of the third by JVG, or we would have won.

Piece wise perhaps. We showed we have the right tools to put on the court to contend, yes.

However, mentally, NO WAY! This game showed how mentally weak we are as a team. Our 2 superstars dont respond extremely well to adversity and we have a starting PG who melts like swiss cheese under duress.

This team needs some serious psychological remedy because that is probably the single most important factor in playoffs.

they were getting all the flop calls. they were getting away with plenty of fouls. yao got pushed in the back yet again on a made shot with no call. it was so obvious but the zebras don't blow the whistle. other than that, the rockets show plenty of potential to be contenders. they can learn from this.

the starting five definitely showed they could mix it with the best in the league...maybe minus juwan and add in hayes...but...heck...jvg really needs to formulate a plan when we reach the fourth quarters...

i think thursday against chicago will be crucial...either we go 6-3 or 5-4...i hope yao is ready for whatever wallace is gonna dish out at him...

It's not just about JVG not taking a timeout. This team is pretenders now by missing the last 18 out of their 19 field goals. Timeout or not, it's not excusable.
