Let's hope that Olajuwon can start where he left off. If Olajuwon can accept his new role with the team and flourish, then we can bid the Lottery adou and say hello to the Playoffs. Lets keep our fingers crossed.

    The playoffs!!!

You are one really optimistic individual! It's gonna take more than one nearly washed up superstar to make the playoffs!

Teams that are in the 5 worst category nearing the all-star break don't just suddenly snap and turn things around.

Not to be cliche but stranger things have happened, and they are only 7 games out of one as we speak......

Only mathematical elimination will cease my belief

    Minnesota's currently 18-16, for a winning percentage of .529.

Houston is currently 12-24, for a winning percentage of .333. We're seven games back.

For us to reach Minnesota's projected record at their current pace (.529 x 82 = 43 wins), we'd have to go 31-15 the rest of the way.

That is a winning percentage of .674, which means we'd have to win two-thirds of our remaining games.

For the sake of hope, let's say Minnesota falls off severely. Let's say the Wolves can only win 2 of every 5 games (40 percent) the rest of the way. That would leave them with a record of 37-45.

We would have to go 25-21 (.543) the rest of the way to tie the T-Wolves. Certainly more do-able than winning 31 times the rest of the way....

...but how likely is it that A) the T-Wolves go from two games over .500 to eight games under, and B) we go from losing two of every three games to winning more than half of them?

It looks pretty bad. If Minnesota did fall off that precipitously, all Denver would have to do to sneak into the playoffs is go 21-25 the rest of the way (they're currently 17-19).

Think about it. We need both Minnesota and Denver to completely suck the rest of the way, and we need the Rockets to become a winning team.

I would say the odds on Houston making the playoffs are about 50 to 1.

    BK,

    50 - 1 odds are probably optimistic.

Mango, you're probably right... but have you ever noticed the way Vegas does those odds? They'll take an event you don't think could possibly happen, like, "Cleveland Browns win 2000 Super Bowl", and give it no worse than 150-1 odds. I read that, and I'm like "Huh? More like 10,000,000 to 1!" [IMG]

50 to 1 is me pretending to be professional. I agree, I it's longer than that, lol.

Johnny Rocket: it really wasn't complicated....took about 15 minutes. Believe me if it took any more work than some very elementary algebra, I'd've quit before I started. [IMG]

BK Steakhous: what's the odds of having a one game playoff for the last spot? I figured you need 15 minutes to burn before you go home for the day!
