On Star 610 today, if I correctly interpreted Rudys thoughts, seemed to imply that Ming wasn't the answer for the Rockettes this year. Personally, I think he's in love with Dunleavy, and he's mentioned as everyone knows that half of the NBA is calling him for the number 1. Prediction: No matter what happens this is the best thing since the championships... Legalize it........Dont criticize
perhaps Rudy is putting up a smoke screen...we might be able to get better trade offers if other teams thought that the Rockets weren't interested in Ming.
To someone who it may concern I think quiet transaction produces better impression. Every hustle Chinese authority makes these days will not be a positive on Rocket's interest on Yao. Be smart chinese balls!! Yao Ming is one of chinese people, not chinese propaganda. Every silly movement that you make will be paid back on Yao's bill by smart-assing sports journalists' action and/or screwing local fan's response. This dirty interference of Chinese balls will be an deciding factor on one youngman's future. Please be democratic and international, and be matured.
He did seem to agree with the Rick Smits comparison of putting 15 and 10 on a daily basis. Only other thing I've heard concerning things of interest is the news with New York and their interest...offering Spree... I hope this is a smokescreen because I dont know how Spree or any other current knick would help...
it is the best thing since the chanpionships. except this time there is no dream in the draft for us. ---david stern, after he announces the first 10 picks "i have a trade to announce...(wait for chears to quiet, while grinning as if he did a great thing)...the houston rockets have traded the rights to yao ming and glen rice to the phoenix suns for shawn marion and jake tsakalidis"
God PLEASE don't let him use that pick on Dunleavy. If he uses the pick to get Dunleavy, or trade down just to get Dunleavy I might have to join the anti-Rudy brigade!
Wait a minute... Is Dunleavy white? Is he related to Mike Dunleavy the coach? Rudy is taking this guy.
Why exactly? Most experts consider him the best small forward prospect in the draft. Not sure he is worth #1 but he is probably worth #3 or #4 if you can move down and still get something in return.
my euphoria of landing the number one would be reversed if we selected Dunleavy with the number one freaking pick. *ughh* shivers.
It's just a bad move. We're basically looking for a small forward who provides all the strengths, and none of the negatives, of the hodgepodge of small forwards we currently have. Dunleavy fits the bill, but so do a lot of players in this draft. The talent drop between a small forward taken in the top 8 or so, and the Rockets' pick at 15, is negligible. You just can't justify shipping away the #1 when players like Jeffries, Nachbar, maybe even Tsiki will likely be available if we just hold on to what we have.Of course, I'm averse to trading for players like Jamison and Odom who have, or will be asking for, a maximum contract, which may be where we differ in thinking- I think those kind of players are just as much a risk as anything. In the end, you have to draft Ming. Now is not the time to become overly conservative. Other News - Mobley advocated drafting Ming, with Taylor and Moochie also voicing their support, albeit not as directly. - The Rockets contacted Ming's representative at the University of Chicago, who had nothing but good things to say about the Rockets. (legacy, good players, good coaching staff, etc...)
This is what I was suggesting in another thread. Trade #1, #15 to Memphis for Gasol and #4 and erase next year’s obligation to them. I can see Rudy going for this. We get Gasol ROY and with #4 we can draft who ever is left Woods, Dunleavy or Butler and we get to keep next years first round pick. It just depends on whether you want to wait a year or two to be real contender. Griffin and Gasol are young and with a couple of years of NBA experience and weight training could be a dominating frontcourt. ZRB just think if Rudy could get Dunleavy and Gasol. Imagine this roster compared to last years Francis Mobley Griffin Gasol Dunleavy Mo T Kenny T Mooch Cato T Brown T Morris Rice Torres Collier Willis We have added Gasol, Dunleavy and subtracted Walt, Langhi and get to keep our first round pick next year. Dunleavy would bring everything Walt gave our team without age and injuries and Gasol would be what Rudy had hoped Langhi would be but never developed into.
Okay so if we don't want Ming and we don't need JWill and We clearly need a Small forward and Golden State Really likes Jay then how about we swap picks with picks with Golden State and they give us either Dampier, Foyle, Murphy or Fortson... (don't ask for Jamison or Richardson they would never agree) So now we get Dunleavy with the third pick. That being said I like Butler over Dunleavy and I really like Dunleavy... I just think Butler is a warrior... They both show up for the big Games and I believe they both will be stars and they both now how to win... But I just think Butler has the heart of a Lion and well not be intimidated in the NBA... And I am not positive if I can say that about Dunleavy... So many intangibles... I mean Dunleavy can shoot better but Butler is more physical... they both are good rebounders and free throw shooters but Dunleavy is a better shotblocker while Butler is a better defender... Dunleavy isn't a physical specimen, but butler is a little on the short side. Butler is quicker and more intense but Dunleavy plays smart and passes as good as any SF coming out this year. Okay so it's kind of a toss up but I still think I'd give a slim edge to Butler... Either way it's hard to lose we walk away with Butler or Dunleavy and Dampier and we still have the 15th... I'd say pick up Stoudamire if he's available... he could be a project for the future... But we first must be absolutely sure that Ming is not a center of the future... Decisions Decisions Decisions... oh what a position to be in...
Butler's actually the better shooter, shooting better in all statistical categories over Dunleavy. Butler's only downside really is his height. If he were 2 inches or so taller he could easily be going #1. He's just more athletic and has greater leaping ability than Dunleavy. Plus his body is more suited to the NBA game right now.
Rocket to the Moon,Dunleavy is not likely to be better than a 15point,6 assists, and 6 rebounds a game man either. Who would you rather take a 15 and 10 center or a comparable in numbers small forward?
