Did anyone see the interview with Matt Lauer on the Today Show?

Dude is a freak..... I lost alot of respect for the guy. He was bashing people for taking drugs to cure depression among other things. He sucks.

Agreed, he's nuts. But he's so nuts that I can't hate him. He's not a religous nut like Gibson or a communist nut like Michael Moore. He's just nuts period.

I agree with cruise that medication is a downward spiral of failing to cure an illness. All these chemical balancing drugs is an easy cop out for people that need help. It is all too easy for someone to say i need prozac for a year.

Find out what the problem is and deal with it. The answer doesnt lie in a pill in at the end of a bottle.

But I have no idea in what context he said this in. I just disagree with medicine as a whole and I find medicine for psychiatric problems a whole problem in itself.

Cruise is spot-on here. I mean, after all, you poor people with Thetans inside of you won't have any need for drugs when Xenu, Supreme Ruler of the Loyal Officers of the Galactic Confederation, brings his Fifth Invader Force to Earth.

In other news, I'm coo-coo for Cocoa Puffs.

I wonder how many Prozacs old Tom will need in a couple of years after he catches his beloved Katie in their bedroom with a 17 year old surfer dude.

i agree with you in principle. i think we too often look for solutions to problems in medications. but cruise doesn't come off that way. he comes off as extremely arrogant. lauer asked him if he recognized that at least SOME people were helped by these medications, and he refused to acknowledge that. he recently criticized brooke shields PUBLICLY in the press for taking anti-depressants to combat post-partum depression. he reminds me of a teenager who is sure he has it all figured out because he's read a few books....he's the Will Hunting character.

there are better ways to present your argument than screaming and kicking and yelling that you're right and everyone else is wrong. cruise did that this morning with lauer, essentially telling lauer that his own personal experiences with others who had been helped by these medications was not as important to understanding the issue as reading about it. he denigrated lauer. just as he did brooke shields. inexcusable.

if you're gonna call Mel Gibson out as an intolerant religious freak, this guy earns that title, too....and then some. he readily acknowledges that his ideas on these subjects come from scientology, which he calls his own religion.

You are aware that a lot of people with mental issues actually do have a chemical (neurotransmitters) imbalance and need medication for that?

Too many people do overmedicate, but that doesn't mean there isn't a legit need for medication for others.

according to cruise this morning, there is no such thing as a chemical imbalance. and he's read about it, ya know.

It's not just medication, he attacks psychiatry and psychologists as practicing a psuedo-science. Did Lauer point out how in Entertainment Weekly he said psychiatry was a "Nazi science" and that Carl Jung wrote for the Nazi Papers, etc? Did Lauer also mention that EW did some minor research that showed that all of that was a load of bull sh*t?

No, nobody is gonna rag on a guy for bagging himself a younger woman. Though his "I'm in love!!!!!" outbursts are stupid and I'm of the opinion that he had her brainwashed.

Oh yeah, and Michael Moore isn't a communist nut.

If Tom Cruise doesn't believe in chemical imbalances in the brain, then he is full of crap. And, the only way to treat that is with meds. Or, else, what you have is one nutty individual. What's this person going to do? Turn to Scientology? That will just make the person more nutty.

    he definitely kept attacking psychiatry:

"you don't know the history of psychiatry, matt. i do! and since you're a journalist, you have a responsibility to know it. the awful things they've done to people...." - paraphrased, of course.

    he was all over it.

he speaks sooooo defensively. he must be very troubled under the surface. he is extremely antimated about it.

It's too bad he hates psychiatry cuz he really needs the medication. Maybe he was on Prozac all this years and that's he was calm. Now he is off it and we see the real Tom Cruise.

As a side note about Katie.

From what I understand she is from a very catholic family (8 brothers and sisters) and her scientology handlers won't let her see her family.
