http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Tokyo_Game_Show 4 day show that starts the 16th. I'll go ahead and throw out some random news. Early news from Famitsu. Taken from NeoGAF: http://www.neogaf.com/forum/showthread.php?t=407310 More about VC3: (well, better than nothing) Think this was earlier in the week, but we have Dissidia 2 coming: http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Dissidia_2 Also, strong speculation going about Ninja Theory (Heavenly Sword, Enslaved) working with Capcom on DMC5 (or a new DMC game anyway). Guess we'll see. Capcom said something about possibly 4 new games to show at TGS. Not TGS related per se, but Sony has patented something that could help provide the PS3 with PS2 BC. It basically sounds like a small PS2 to attach to the PS3 via some interface (maybe USB, but sounds like it could be something else). Just a patent, so who knows if it is a real product at this point (maybe not even related to the PS3/PS2). I forgot the TGS schedule, but I think things might start tomorrow evening. Though EA has a conference prior to the show I believe (~5 hours from now?).
It actually wouldn't be too inaccurate. Nintendo doesn't normally attend (though now they have 3rd parties to announced stuff for them), and this is Japan, so the 360....well...yeah. Likely will get some PS3/360 stuff. Hopefully more Catherine. At the EA conference, they should announce/reveal the project that Suda 51 (No More Heroes, Killer 7, etc.) and Shinji Mikami (Resident Evil) are working on for them (also has Akira Yamaoka too IIRC). Oh wait, just found out that this game is the Shadows of the Damned game mentioned above: http://www.1up.com/news/suda51-mikami-damned MS has a keynote I believe, though I forgot what it was about. Maybe just Kinect stuff. Not sure they've had a big event in Japan for Kinect yet. May get some more Kinect titles from Japanese studios. I should put more handheld stuff (which Japan loves), but just doesn't interest me that much outside of a few games. And half the time it is me wishing it was a console game, not a handheld game.
I totally just got a chub. These are two of my favorite games of all time. What's the deal? Just an update/graphics overhaul for the PS3? If so, I'm psyched for it, and I've NEVER gotten psyched for an update/graphics overhaul to an existing game, no matter how much I liked it.
Don't think there were any details in the Famitsu (or they haven't leaked anyway), but yeah, likely just ports in HD, ala God of War and the Sly collections. Maybe better framerate, plus trophies I guess. It has actually been rumored for a while, and Walmart and some retailer in Europe even have pages for it (not that this usually means much by itself). Though they seemed to imply that they would be sold together. Here, they seem to be separate. Might just be that in Japan, they'll be sold separately.
It's very sad that VC3 will be on the PSP....sigh Hopefully FF13 Versus' in game videos will be good....
That Walmart link for the Team ICO collection was like April 2011. I hope it comes out a lot sooner than that. As for BC, I think that's probably the most logical choice, selling some add-on. Lots of people still want to play ps2 games, but without buying a new ps2, which Sony will not officially kill for a few more years even though it just turned 10.
I'm so stoked. I've graduated nursing school, and as soon as I take (and pass) my NCLEX, I'm buying a PS3 and a good TV. I've been holding out for this moment and I can't wait. To kind of hold me over, I bought some component cables for my PS2 and my little 22" 720p Dynex crap TV. I couldn't believe the difference between the component cables and the old VGA cables. They really went a long way in making my PS2 games look better and just gets me more excited to finally get a PS3 and a good TV. [/dorky excitement]
Trailer for Shadows of the Damned: <object width="640" height="385"><param name="movie" value="http://www.youtube.com/v/BbHs4BWL32A?fs=1&hl=en_US"></param><param name="allowFullScreen" value="true"></param><param name="allowscriptaccess" value="always"></param><embed src="http://www.youtube.com/v/BbHs4BWL32A?fs=1&hl=en_US" type="application/x-shockwave-flash" allowscriptaccess="always" allowfullscreen="true" width="640" height="385"></embed></object> Was expecting more given the talent behind the game. Maybe I'll just wait and see. Capcom Pre-TGS conference going on right now. 3 new games expected. Ninja Theory creative director (Tameem Antoniades) is there apparently. http://www.1up.com/news/capcom-tgs-press-conference edit: Yep, NT working on new DMC game. Press conference was kind of weird. Capcom, "Japan is not dead. Here are a bunch of games developed by western studios to prove it."
DMC5? from Ninja Theory...was expecting it from all the info prior to the announcement and was hoping it wouldn't be true. DO NOT WANT.
It does suck VC3 won't be on PS3, but it least it helps justify my PSP purchase more. The SotC/ICO news may not be unexpected, but yeah, still very excited that it's official. Frame rate was pretty poor for SotC; bumping up the visuals and framerate would really add to the experience. And that PS2 BC thing... I'd really like to know more detail on that. If it doesn't preserve the HD upscaling the 60GB PS3 did (and to me the fact that it has its own CPU & GPU suggests this), it seems pointless. You'd just be using many times the power and wearing down your PS3 more to maybe save a tiny bit of up-front cost, as opposed to just buying a PS2. Not like they're expensive.
It's a reboot of the series, so I guess that gave them free reign to completely makeover Dante. The same group that made Heavenly Sword is doing this, so I'm worried.
Microsoft keynote just finished. I was right about it being a bunch of Kinect games, but they actually sounded pretty nice...I think? Lots of "core games." No idea how they'll work with Kinect, but should be interesting. Too lazy to list them out, so I'll just link to the 1UP blog: http://www.1up.com/news/microsoft-tgs-press-conference-live Really curious about how Steel Battalion would work. Hopefully doesn't suck...don't want From Software wasting their time on things not related to Demon's Souls 2 (unreasonable yeah, but I wants it). More HD Ports? http://www.1up.com/news/report-muramasa-odin-sphere-high-definition There were 2 screens for the PS3 versions of Ico and SOTC. I thought about finding them and posting them here, but I think they'll probably be shown off more later tonight or tomorrow morning (along with TLG). Also some talk that they won't just be HD ports, but that seemed more like speculation. We'll see I guess. New Catherine trailer: http://www.famitsu.com/news/201009/16033531.html (Famitsu is weird about linking, so you might have to copy and paste or press enter in the address bar if the link doesn't work)
I would stand up for Ninja Theory a bit though. They get a lot of hate, but I don't think it is really all that justified. I think they have some good potential. But they are not suited for DMC IMO. I'd rather they worked with their own IP (like a Heavenly Sword) than try to adapt their talents to work on an existing IP like DMC. Their strengths are more so on the presentation (graphics, voice acting, music, etc) and storytelling side. And their weakness is probably on the gameplay side (not terrible, but probably not top-of-the-line). Pretty much the exact opposite of what goes into a DMC game. I guess if you're going to outsource the game, then NT isn't a bad choice. But really have no clue why they didn't just do it in-house like DMC4. Sold a couple million copies IIRC, so it was a success. Even had a new character to follow. Too early to see how this new game will fair, but looks like they're losing much of their DMC fanbase. And I doubt they'll gain much a new audience (not enough to sell millions, like previous games). One of a few confusing decisions from Capcom.
