I dunno how many of you know about this but Ramadan started today and Hakeem will start fasting....It doesn't make a differnce where u are, fasting starts at 5:30am and ends 5:30pm.....So how many ppl think this will affect Hakeem? It will definitely make him weak cause even after fasting ends he's not allowed to eat excessively, just enough not to kill you....I really wish we had Kelvin back right about now....In three days it will be 4 weeks since his injury, do u think he'll be back that early?

    Sane -

Are you sure on this one? I have remembered the Rocks struggling during February in the past and this Muslim religious observance was brought up during those times.

I don't know if stats are available, but over the years I have noticed a decline in Dreams play during this period.

Cato was injured on Nov. 2nd. The 4 to 6 week range for recovery would be Nov. 30th thru Dec. 14th. Since we haven't heard much, I guess it's going to be closer to the latter.

Ramadan changes year to year. As I understand things, the Islamic year is 354 days. Each month alternates between 30 and 29 days. Ramadan is the ninth month of the Islamic calendar so it gets "earlier" compared to the 365 day year as time goes by.

That's all true and ys, I'm sure about what I said.....I dunno about the stats, but with Collier and Cato out, and Hakeem weaker than he normally is, we're in trouble....Maybe we should sign someone to a 10-day contract?

    Sane,

10-day contracts are not allowed until roughly mid-January.

That's interesting -- I was just about to post also that I thought it was February every year based on past years with Dream fasting...

Lets hope it doesn't affect Dream too much -- he's become a much bigger part of the team now, particularly with Cato out. It seems Dream is having more fun out there with the team.

I haven't heard anything on Kelvin's injury lately...

Who remembers Clinton saying he needed to bomb Iraq before Ramadan,,,when in fact he wanted to do it before the impeachment proceedings.

    December.

Just for everyone's info, Ramadan is the the 1-month a year that all muslims fast from sunrise to sunset. Every year Ramadan comes sooner during the year because the Muslim year is shorter. Personally, I don't think it will affect Hakeem's level of play much because I've seen him play every year during Ramadan and it didnt seem to affect him. one game i recall was when Houston played Jordan and the Bulls back in 1997. Hakeem had 32 Points, 16 Rebounds, 5 Blocks, and 4 steals. Rockets won the game 102-86. I remember it too well becuse it was one hell of a game!. Hakeem was fasting that Month and the Rockets were battling the Bulls for the NBA's best record.

Today is definetly the begining of Ramadan.

What makes it tough for him is day games that he can't drink. He is the Dream and he will fight through it, hopefully w/o getting annemia. Although, the last time he had annemia we won a ......

Is taking fluid by IV ,during the day, against the rules?

all games during Ramadan appear to be night games after 7pm (local tip-off time)

I'm curious; does anyone know what players follow the fasting rules of Ramadan, like Hakeem .

No consumption of food or water.

An IV as an alternative to oral intake is probably against the rules of fasting also because it is still consumption. After sunset, things are more festive and fresh dates are popular items at meals.

I believe that Ramadan will improve Hakeem's game versus hindering it...Due to the fact that the game will usually start around 5:30 it should be no problem for Hakeem to be well nourished for the game...He has been through this many times before...Also, players like Shareef Abdul-Rahim and Mahmud Abdul-Rauf, Tariq Abdul-Wahad, and others will be fasting...

If I ever had to do something like that I would eat so much before 5:30 AM that I would be on the craper all day till 5:30 PM [IMG]

Also, one last thing...Ramadan is for spiritual gain...you will never hear Hakeem complain that it is effecting his health..on the contrary, it is actually very good for the body to fast....When he breaks his fast he may do it with dates and milk, but more than likely he will break his fast with lots of fluids and regular food....Trust me, it will not be a big issue

Hey, he can still gorge himself before 5:30am and after 5:30pm, so unless it is a day game..no big deal.
