Kings Notes: Newest addition not in camp yet

Keon Clark misses practice; he's expected to be there today.

There are all types of games -- shooting, rebounding, defense, ballhandling, etc. -- used during NBA training camps.

Wednesday, the Kings learned a new game: Where's Keon?

That's because center-forward Keon Clark, signed Aug. 14 as a free agent, had excused absences Monday and Tuesday while appearing at custody hearings in Illinois, but he was expected to attend practice Wednesday.

Moreover, the Kings did not know why Clark was a no-show. coach Rick Adelman was not terribly pleased by Clark's absence, if for no other reason than the 27-year-old, 6-foot-11 flyer is the only member of the team's probable rotation who is not familiar with the offensive system.

"We have no idea why he was not here," Adelman said after practice. "I understand he's going to be here (today). He's coming in right now. And we'll have to sit down and find out what happened.

"We thought he was coming in (Tuesday night) and practicing (Wednesday). We even thought he might be coming in (Wednesday) morning and walking through the door any minute."

Divac likes what he sees -- Vlade Divac wasn't totally familiar with Sean Chen -- such as actually knowing his name and all that -- but the veteran center does like what he's seen out of the Taiwanese player.

"The guy from Taiwan, he's quick, and he can shoot," Divac said. "He's a pretty good player."

Chen also made two free-throws at the end of the threehour practice to further ingratiate himself to his teammates. For each miss, players would have had to run a series of wind sprints.

Coach is cool with schedule -- The preseason is many things to many people, and to Adelman, in recent seasons, it's been an opportunity to rip Wayne Cooper, his former player and current team vice president of basketball operations, who is responsible for making the schedule.

But with the Kings having just one trip to Dallas and the rest of their preseason road games no farther than Seattle, Adelman actually had to give Cooper kudos.

"Coop outdid himself this year," Adelman said. "The schedule is pretty good. We've only got the Dallas trip, and that's the only one where we may not practice the next day, depending on what time we get back.

Injury update -- Swingman Gerald Wallace was hampered by cramps in his right quadriceps Wednesday, while forward Casey Shaw did not practice because of a sprained right ankle suffered Tuesday.

Martin sentencing delayed -- The sentencing of former Michigan booster Ed Martin has been delayed from Oct. 8 until Feb. 20. He pleaded guilty in May to conspiracy to launder money. The change was reported by the Ann Arbor (Mich.) News, citing court documents. Kings forward Chris Webber, along with his father, Mayce Webber Jr., and aunt, Charlene Johnson, are charged with lying to a grand jury and obstructing justice in Martin's case. They have pleaded innocent, and their trials are not expected to begin until next year.

You can just hear the chemistry between Keon and the Kings clicking already, can't you?

And people think Cato has a bad attitude. He may suck sometimes, but at least he comes to work and sucks.

Aint that the truth but I don't like talking bad about Houston players even though he isn't that good.

Well, he finally did show up. He was in custody hearings for his son, and apologized for missing camp.

When all is said and done, Clark will still be a great addition.
