STONE FREE The STONE TEMPLE PILOTS have officially split up. The grunge band enjoyed success in the 1990s with their debut album ’Core’, 1996’s ’Purple’, and the single ’Plush’. However, former frontman Scott Weiland’s heroin addiction has had more press than the band's albums in recent years. Lead guitarist Dean DeLeo explained split to KIIS Radio. "Along with the beauty of the Stone Temple Pilots there was a dark trail that went right along with it," he said. "There's not much I can look back on and say I really enjoyed, without wondering if the floor was going to drop from under us." As recently reported on NME.COM, Weiland has been ordered into drug rehabilitation, following his probation violation. Weiland, whose next probation status report in January 6, was allowed a supervised four-hour block over a ten-day period beginning on November 7 to complete his vocal parts on his new album with Velvet Revolver, the band he formed with former members of Guns N’ Roses.
A lot of people like to trash STP, but they're one of the few bands that was as good in the end as they were in the beginning...
Does anybody really care anymore? I saw them open for Neil Young at the LA Sports Arena in 1994 or 1995. They were one of the worst concert acts I've ever seen, along with Foghat. If I wanted to listen to someone scream at me, I'd call my mother on the telephone. Adios, STP, and don't let the door hit you in the ass on the way out.
i've always liked 'em. sorry to see them split. isn't there a greatest hits coming out sometime soon?
Finn, you are the man. I humbly bow in the presence of your overwhelming talent and power! HOTCH-CHA-CHA-CHA
It's a shame Weiland could never get his act together, I've never seen them in concert, but their albums were always good, except for maybe the last one.
I am smellin’ like the rose That somebody gave me on My birthday deathbed I am smellin’ like the rose That somebody gave me ’cause I’m dead & bloated RIP STP
Threads like this (and the Britney one) always bring the question to my mind: "Why do people feel the need to **** on what kind of music others enjoy?"
At least the band name doesn't have a number in it... My guess is that Weiland was putting some STP fuel injector cleaner in his car and he just thought up words that began with S, T, and P....viola, instant band name!
