I'm about to go on the renegade diet, thoughts? I've heard good things about it.

    www.renegadedietbook.com/

I weigh 160, I wouldn't mind gaining a bit more muscle but mostly I want to cut down a thin layer of fat. This diet is supposed to allow you to keep your gains (even gain more) while cutting the fat

Basically you gorge carbs and whatever at night within a 4 hour window before going on a intermtitent fast for 14-16 hours. So if you finish eating at 8pm you wont eat again until 12pm(you can drink water though. alot of it) the next day. At 12 you can eat veggies/protein and fats for 4 hours its called the undereating phase, then you get your workout and feast to your hearts desire the next 4 hours before fasting

The only complaint is trying to make sure you are eating enough calories but if you are I don't see how this isn't a great diet

    The early mourning fast will
-Lower insulin(carbs will raise insulin). Low Insulin=Burn fat more effectively
-Cortisol Levels peak 7-9am= Adverse to high levels while working out(it breaks muscle down faster) its good in the mourning's it helps break down body fat by increasing release of fatty acids for energy
-Growth hormones spike when insulin levels are low perfect in the mourning it obvisoley burns fat and builds muscle
-After adaptation phase and our adjusted you will have much more energy and focus as your sympathetic nervous system will be active early throughout the day 'think flgiht or fight mode' other then the parasympathetic system (rest/digest)

The fasting seems logical to me in everyway, your body wont go into a full catabolic state until 60-90 hours with no food.

Has anyone tried this? Any thoughts from health guru's?
this seems like a plan I could use for the rest of my life.

    Sounds pretty much like leangains.com

It'll probably work, but it'll suck.

OP, do you seriously believe you could do this the rest of your life?

No way. It's just another fad diet that might give you results for a short period of time.

Good diet. Yes its something we do for life. I do the bulletproof diet personally. Its similar to this. Anything high healthy fat, medium protein, and low carb is a good lifestyle diet to follow. Im 210 lbs dont work out all that much and have a 33in waist all due to my diet. Dave asprey bulletproof diet is what i follow. Its free google it.

+1. Leangains changed my eating habits for good. I started in August and it has worked great for me since.

    http://examine.com/leangains-faq/

    pros:
-no wasting time making breakfast (allows me to workout in the AM now)
-bigger and more fuller lunch and dinner
-more meals options since you have more calories to work with at each meal (instead of 400 x 5 meals, i can do 1200, 800).
-no need to carry around multiple meals

    cons:
-sometimes you do get a lil hungry in the AM, just drink water or something to get through till your noon meal.
-if you have a bigger calorie need, 2 meals big meals can be too much, but you can split it to 3 or 4 meals i guess as long as it's during your "feeding period".

I'm hesitant in believing this diet would work. When you say "gorge," like I can eat pizza and Whataburger every night?

that's just making it way too complicated. Stick with hitting your macros and you should be good. Those fad diets don't do sh*%. Stick with the basics and you can't go wrong.

I'm guessing the weight loss is attributed to shocking your system. Anything that breaks routine will result in faster gains. That's my experience. In dieting, lifting and cardio.

Seems to me like you just want an excuse to binge eat, :)but yes, this will definitely work. I would suggest you prepare your meals for the week ahead of time.

Sounds like it can work if you commit to the weight training as well at the right time.

Only thing I would add is that first thing in the AM, I'd make myself an amino acid drink. I currently take 2 scoops of BCAAs along with 15g of l-arginine on an empty stomach @ about 630am and work out at about 645am.

If you do some research on the amino acids l-arginine & l-leucine, you'll understand why i'd consume these while in a fasting state for the hgh & catabolism benefits.

i buy my amino acids/arginine powder here:
    http://www.swansonvitamins.com/

Do yourself a favor, take a break every 7 or 8 weeks for like a week.

    Good luck.

I don't really follow dieting advice much but try to eat more fruits, vegetables and fiber. I have heard a lot though about not skipping breakfast and from my own experience I definitely seem to be mentally and physically sharper in the morning when I eat breakfast. During weekdays I wakeup early and get a light workout before I eat and that seems to help me much more than either skipping breakfast or skipping a morning workout.

i've been doing this for the last 7 years or so. Only difference is my fast is 12-14 hours and I prefer working out in the morning on a fasted workout with some BCAA. It has been fantastic and I don't plan to go back.

    Crap diet.

Primal diet is the best way to stay in great health and shape.

Ask yourself if you honestly can do the renegade diet for the next 50 years?

    1) Just eat clean (most importantly limiting sugar intake)

    2) Keep count of your macros (whether you're trying to maintain, cutting or clean bulking)

    3) lift heavy

    4) do cardio
