    Fella's.....and ladies too,

Just got me a spankin new 2004 Frontier Crew Cab that I'm using as my next lil "project" after my last project, a G 35 Sport Coupe, was sadly cut short by a driver with no insurance and an old Ford metal hunker.

Anyways, all was goin good. Just got rims, replaced stock fake silver running boards with custom chrome boards to match.

    Then came today.

After work, flipped on the radio. Nothin good on. Then fired in one of my burned CD's.......and the nightmares began.

At first, the CD didnt want to play. So I tried ejecting the damn thing and all I herad was "crunkle, crunkle." Its stuck in there. So I was close by to a dealership and decided to stop in and visit with a tech.

    Here's where it gets interesting.

They cant get it out either. As if that isnt bad enough, they then tell me that it states in the manual for "CD operation" (Which I convinently skipped to read the important and good stuff) that this player cannot play burned CD's cause they usually have a bigger depth then regular CD's. So they then proceed to run the "sales pitch" and tell me since I violated operation rules stated in the manual, my warantee does not apply and I would have to buy a replacement they sell in the neighborhood $400. Even better, the replacement wouldnt be here for two months. Nice sell guys, but why on earth would I buy a replacement that cant play burned CD's when all I have is burned CD's.

So now, on the fly, I shoppin aftermarket.

And that's where you come in.....

I'm lookin for a double din CD player with a nice display and preferably a tape deck to play my mix tapes once in a while.

What brand should I go with?

I've heard Alpine mentioned alot amongst my tuner-happy sport-compact buddies. I've also heard that Sony sucks. Is this all true....or is the "Nos' goin to there heads and killin a few brain cells?

And after my service nightmare with Nissan, which car audio store provides the best service and the best finished results? In short, who can I trust?

    Tips, comments all appreciated.......

    :)

bigger depth? i'm skeptical as to how true this is. next thing you know they'll put bullet holes in your hood and tell you they're speed holes which make the car go faster.

    Yep.

Thata's the "car salesman" in those techs comin out. I'm not really buyin it either since I see no way how a sixteenth-of-an-inch can effect the ejection process of a CD player.

    But get this.

One of my tuner buddies rides around in a SER. He replaced his CD player literally two weeks after buying the car cause the same thing happened to him.

I love my Alpine. I had it in my Exploder for almost 3 years and it never gave me any problems. I have a new car now so its just sitting in a box with some speakers and amps that wont fit in my new car. Alpine is definitely a good brand. Pioneer is good too. I had one burn out on my though a few years ago. (after that I got the Alpine) They have made considerable changes to their decks since then though. (changing buttons, etc...)

Does anyone know about Clarion cd players? I don't know anyone personally who has one, but the features on their new models look cool.

^maybe I wasn't clear above. What I meant was Pioneer has made a lot of changes to their cd players. So the fact that I had one burn out on me might not be relevant. All the things they changed were things that I had problems with. Buttons wearing through, overheating...etc...
The overheating could have been due to the heat/ac vent being right above the cd mount in my Exploder, but....I don't really know for sure. I had the Apline in the same vehicle and never had an overheating problem so maybe it was just the Pioneer.

I have Pioneers in most of my vehicles. They're reliable, don't skip and they have a lot of features for the money without the Alpine price premium.
